The book was put together very poorly. It almost seemed to be put together by copying and pasting information from other books. The Table of Contents had all wrong page numbers. The listing of tools for a basic kit on page 11 differed fro the listing in Appendix A. There was a wrong picture for the caption on page 60. The chapter on cartridges was very incomplete and poorly written. The Appendix B on Manufactures was very incomplete to the point of not even including some of the major manufacturers that they mentioned in the text. The book would probably be a good deal if you could get it cheap on a clearance rack.

This is the book to learn every nuance of the AR15 firearm. Sweeny tells about all the bits and pieces while providing a lot of guidance concerning pitfalls, what to do and not to do. I read the book because I was curious about the AR15. It served me in that this is a rifle I will never own because it just does not appeal to me. But I sure know a lot about it now.

I have been NRA Service Rifle match shooting AR-15's since the 1970's and have custom built them myself. Recently, I wanted to build a 6.5 Grendel. Knowing there have been many changes to the basic platform, I bought the book to catch up. Patrick Sweeney really knows his stuff. I learned some nuances I would have otherwise overlooked. Great book for building, maintaining and shooting the AR-15.

This book is very helpful for those looking to understand the Stoner platform better. It expands on subjects covered in the other volumes and gives one a comprehensive understanding of the AR's sub-systems. The book will make planning one's next build easier and maintaining one's rifles better. Mr. Sweeney articulates all of his points well and with his unique sense of humor.
