Overview

Gus is a thirteen-year-old superhero - Earth's one and only, which is pretty cool most of the time.

Gus's greatest nemesis is ordinary life. Crime-fighting cuts into his video game time. Obsessed classmate, Larry 'the Schemer,' won't stop trying to destroy him with ridiculous science projects. And his arch-nemesis, Mrs. Johnston, loves handing out a never-ending supply of detention slips for tardiness (even if the reason he's late is because he was saving someone's life).

No challenge is greater, however, than finding the courage to ask his best friend, Molly, on a date to their first school dance. To make matters worse, Earth's first super-villain strikes. It will take more than mighty superpowers to overcome this brutish menace and save the town from total annihilation.

Gus learns important lessons about life, loss, and his own limitations, which is an awful lot to learn about for a kid who doesn't like school.

Really people you know useing magis to revive some one is impossble so how did you get rasha to live. Second if you werentuseing magic and went to hell to collect her soul that wouldnt work eather so if you die. Think about it. If you die you stay dead. So think about it

    Not what I expected.

Gus the Mighty was well written and should capture the interest of junior high students. I bought it to review for my 12-year-old grandson. However, after reading it, I chose not to let him read it because I felt there was too much emphasis on being in love at that age and that the death situation presented in the story was much too heavy for a boy his age. Also, I found the ending to be rather abrupt and incomplete.

not what I had hoped for

Was looking for a book to read with 4th graders. This one had too much "slang" for my classroom.
