Overview

From sleeping through the night to discarding diapers, new parents focus on getting their kids to the next stage. Michael Crider was especially anxious for his son to grow up: He looked forward to fishing trips, to playing ball, and to training Ryan to be dad’s designated driver! And then something horrible happened: Crider got his wish, and the tot who could be silenced with a stuffed animal or a good burp had turned into a person who needed his parents less and less. From Ryan’s first steps to his first ride on the school bus, Michael Crider’s new Guy’s Guide chronicles his feeble fatherly attempts to hang on to his little boy. Honest, heartwarming, and hilarious, it gives new meaning to “be careful what you wish for!”

Editorial Reviews

Crider's book has warmth, which peeps out whether he is discussing the excesses of kids' birthday parties or the weird interviews of children conducted by some preschool administrators. It's his heart, not his joke telling ability, that makes Crider a father worth listening to.

I have loved Michael Crider's comedy since his first book about pregnancy. He is an outgrageous wit. He is an iconoclastic deflator of the pompous, self-righteous writings of most other authors on similar topics. His humor simply shreds anyone who has had the pleasure of reading his thoughts on the subject of parenting and relationships. His writing reveals a man who is multi-layered with the heart of a marshmallow, but the tongue of sulfuric acid. He not only pushes the envelope with his humor, he disintegrates the envelope all together. I highly recommend all of his books.
