Purpose: The purpose is to describe gynecologic operations and to discuss the indications for the operation. Differing management options for particular clinical scenarios are presented. Laparoscopic alternatives are also described. These are certainly worthy objectives. The textbook provides important and useful information for gynecologic residents and for practicing surgeons who need a review.
Audience: The authors have written this textbook for residents in obstetrics and gynecology. This is certainly the audience targeted. The text and illustrations are presented in an easy-to-understand fashion. The authors are well-known obstetricians/gynecologists with extensive experience in gynecologic surgery. They are, therefore, well qualified to author a textbook on this subject matter.
Features: The textbook is endowed with pertinent illustrations. These are easy to comprehend and complement the text well. The majority of references are current. They reflect well-established data about a particular subject matter. The overall appearance of the book reflects its nature, i.e., that of a reference textbook. The text is inundated with simple yet descriptive figures and diagrams. These serve to highlight important areas and make the written prose easier to understand.
Assessment: This is an excellent textbook for resident physicians in obstetrics and gynecology and for practicing physicians who want a quick review. The text is easy to read and has pertinent information. Current information regarding optimal modalities for diagnosis and methods of follow-up are discussed where appropriate. The illustrations provide the reader with a simple way of understanding the operative technique being discussed. This textbook would certainly be a valuable addition to any library whether it was a private or public one. I am confident it would be used often.
