Overview

One promise, two pendants…love that was destined to be.

Book 1 in the Gypsy Legacy Series

Lady Christina Kenton’s life is turned upside down when her gypsy great-grandmother gives her a pendant, along with a deathbed request—Tina must promise to marry only the man wearing its mate. But Tina cannot bring herself to make the promise, for her late stepfather has already pledged her hand to his long-absent heir.

Jay Collings, now the Marquis of Thanet, returns to England after an eighteen-year absence to honor a promise to a gypsy who once aided him, only to discover he must break his vow in order to secure his inheritance. The last thing he wants is a wife chosen by the father he despised.

Tina’s gentle strength touches Jay in ways no other woman has. And, unknown to them both, she holds the key to Jay’s promise and his inheritance. But just as their fragile relationship begins to take root, the legacy of her gypsy blood brings danger to their doorstep.

Jay and Tina’s destinies may be entwined—but will they live long enough to fulfill them?

I seldom give an historical novel 5 stars but finding this one was like di9scovering buried treasure. Denise Patrick is an excellent writer ad her characters are deep and fully satisfying. I will say I don't think the description of the story is as good as the story is. WE have mystery, mayhem, English courtly intrigue, love and passion, a gypsy promise, a secret will and other secrets that if shared could send the lovers running in the wrong direction for the wrong reason and a truly evil villain.
    I was drawn in immediately.
It is 1861 and Tina and her sister ( half sister) and brother are dealing with the death of their mother (and the aftermath her stepfather's death created four years before). Jay only knows he must marry the lovely stepsister he has never met to attain his title of marquis through a twisted plot his father made of his will. Though the fortunes and estates should be his by birthright, his father has made sure that Tina and Jay will marry for either of them to inherit. Tina's brother Jon is Jay's friend and willing to help sort through the confusion. A gypsy charm is a promise of good luck, but more is a guide to a fated love. Each of them has the other half, but neither knows nor wants to risk the tenuous love they have found with each other. I do not want to give spoilers by telling to much of their story. The story is full of interesting characters in the villages and in London with the upper crust: the ton. I really look forward to the next two novels in this series. A fast pace and very well written narrative of the times is what hooked me. Ms Patrick writes visually. The gowns, the balls, the rundown homes of the villagers, are all there and vivid enough to remember for a long time. I look forward to seeing the children of jay and Tina and of seeing who and how Felicia is matched. Good job Ms. Patrick.
....an additional note: As a reader I depend on reviews to help me decide which books to spend my money on and which to pass. I noticed that most of the reviews below are simple starred responses with no review of why or even if the person read the book. An unremarked 5 star review is just as unhelpful as a 1 star with no reason. If a person reads a book and really feels it didn't deliver, I feel they owe the author the courtesy of saying why. This is a 5 star book.
