Meet the Author

J. R. Sálongo Lee III is a African American award winning photographer, visual artist, arts educator and writer of haiku poetry. He is also a former performance photographer, photojournalist and commercial photographer. Currently he and his wife;who is also his best friend and muse have been on a eight year sabbatical in Mississippi but will be returning to their home base in California in 2015. He runs Sálongo's Art, LLC, which markets his original photographs, paintings and handmade books. Through the company he also provides digital printing services to visual artists and teaches art workshops and produce and organize art events and exhibitions for arts and educational organizations and non profit community organizations.

He has been awarded numerous commission, grants and fellowships and is a selected artist to the Mississippi Arts Commission's Artist Roster and an Arts Ambassador. As of 2014 he only creates unique photographs that consist of one unique photographic print or a Limited Edition of five images. Some of the images are printed directly onto a substrate created by the layering of several different materials, such as acrylic paint skins, metal foils and even sand paper.

Sálongo also creates handmade books he calls Wall Books, which are as large as 2'x4' and mount on a wall or can be held in your hand. His art is in numerous private and public collections and can be seen on his web site www.salongosart.com
