Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Krisan Murphy
Stella Batts, a third grader, learns the true definition of a bad hair day when the magic gum her dad brings home from the family candy store ends up in her long locks. This is just one of many misadventures Stella endures in this delightful early chapter book. Not only does Stella suffer hair injuries, but her younger sister, Penny, also does so when she uses her own long braids to paint a hopscotch grid on a neighboring friend's concrete. Readers will enjoy Penny's antics and realistic dilemmas written from her first-person point of view. When Willa, who Penny describes as the nicest person in the world and her very best friend, announces that her family is moving from Stella's neighborhood to the other side of the United States, Stella wishes that the magic gum that once destroyed her hair really would change this tragedy. Stella believes magic only works for her sister, whose wishes always seem to come true, until she sees a glimpse of how her wishes could become a reality. This is the second in a series of "Stella Batts" books. Reviewer: Krisan Murphy

My daughter 7, and son 4, read this one quickly. They thought what Stella went through was so funny. Love a book we can read together that we all enjoy! Definitely recommend Stella Batts to all young readers!

My kids were so thrilled that there was a 2nd Stella Batts to read. These are very sweet books, but they're so fun-loving that the kids don't feel like reading them is a chore. Anything that gets my son to read by himself (without me telling him to!) is 5 stars in my book!

Sweet, funny, "wholesome" as another review puts it. Perfect to read with your daughter or granddaughter.
