Overview

With a score including such enduring musical numbers as "Let the Sun Shine In," "Aquarius," "Hair" and "Good Morning Starshine," Hair depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the '60s and '70s that changed America forever. The musical follows a group of hopeful, free spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War.

As they explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs, and burn draft cards, the "tribe" in Hair creates an irresistible message of hope, peace, and change that continues to resonate with audiences 40 years later.

The cast of the Broadway revival of Hair features Will Swenson as Berger, Tony nominee Gavin Creel as Claude, Sasha Allen as Dionne, Caissie Levy as Sheila, Allison Case as Crissy, Kacie Sheik as Jeanie, Bryce Ryness as Woof, Darius Nichols as Hud, Megan Lawrence as Mother, and Andrew Kober as Margaret Mead/Dad. I saw the show and this recording captures the excitement and soul of the performance. The cast has so much energy and it is reflected and received right back on the audience!!! This CAST is wonderful... and recording sounds excellent just like being there!!!

It's been in my cd player in my car for about a month now, almost exclusively. I love the songs, they are very easy to sing along with, and the performance was great.

I saw this cast on Broadway so I had to have the CD. As good as the original CD. Such great talents.

This newly recorded cast album of Broadway's most popular revival is MUST for every fan of musicals, young and old. The timeless melodies, beautiful arrangements, and fantastic voices of the cast would make anyone bust out into song and dance. The 37-track CD includes every song from the show, including the encore/curtain call numbers and intrumental songs. Gavin Creel leads the album with his effortless voice and wonderful castmates (Caissie Levy, Will Swenson, Kacie Sheik, Sasha Allen). RUN, don't walk to get this album and LET THE SUNSHINE IN!

Saw the original B'way Version of Hair, and listened to the recording of it for YEARS, and didn't think this one stood a chance at matching it. Boy was I wrong! The new "spin" on the music is spot on, a quality that is sorely lacking on another recording of a highly anticipated revival this past season.

The New Broadway Cast Recording of Hair successfully transfers the magic of the current Broadway revival to CD. The history-making show about a tribe of hippies in New York's East Village contains classics such as "Aquarius", "Good Morning Starshine", "Let the Sun Shine In," and the classic title track. The current cast sounds as vibrant as they do on stage. Examples includes, Sasha Allen's soaring vocals on "Black Boys", Will Swenson's knockout version of "Donna", Caissie Levy's emotional "Easy To Be Hard" and Gavin Creel's outstanding rendition of "Where Do I Go?" Producers, including, Hair's original Musical Composer, Galt MacDermot, have included tracks that weren't on the Original Cast Recording, sprinkles of dialogue and both of the show's curtain calls. All of this helps transport the listener from their destination to the theater. The show's Musical Director, Nadia DiGinallonardo, makes MacDermot's music sound as fresh as ever with its mix of Rock, Soul, Country and World Rhythms. Gerome Ragni's and James Rado's lyrics are as relevant as ever on songs such as "Air" ("Welcome, sulphar dioxide/Hello carbon monoxide/The air, the air is everywhere.") and "I Believe in Love" ("I believe that now is the time/for all good men/To believe in love.") Their songs are philosophical ("What a Piece of Work Is Man") and provocative ("Sodomy"), but also funny ("My Conviction") and heartbreaking, ("Frank Mills"). Listening to the New Broadway Cast Recording of Hair is a reminder that not only is this the right time to experience the show but to hear its timeless songs. BobsViews
