Highly Recommended Beginner's Bass Method Book

After never playing ANY sort of musical instrument for the first 40 years of my life, I've been studying music - specifically learning to play the bass - for the past few years now. I've spent some (not enough) time working with instructors, and I have built up a small library (~30 books) of sheet music compilations and learn-to-play-method books. While many of the books are very good, and I've learned bits and pieces from each, this book is helping me to push my knowledge and skills to higher levels faster than anything else I've used. This edition combines 3 earlier publications into one 143-page book that includes 3 CDs with about 250 play-along tracks. I think I've made more progress during the past 3 months with Ed Friedland's book than I have in the previous 3 years with several other resources. On top of this, the book - including the 3 CDs - sells for about $25 in one package. I have a master's degree in education, and I have been a teacher for some years myself; I think that the pedagogical approach that Ed uses in this book is absolutely perfect. If you know of a beginning bass player - especially an 'adult' - I would highly recommend this book.
