An awsome collection of memorabilia from 1966. Beautifully photographed with commentary.
Quick now, what do these things have in common: the Beatles' "Revolver," Twister, the Ford Mustang, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Frosty the Sno-Cone, The Monkees and Simon & Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence?" Answer: They were all hits in 1966! In an awesome collection of memorabilia, Hal Lifson's 1966! brings to life the sights, sounds, fads and fun of that memorable year.
What makes this book different from other reviews of pop culture is that it is Lifson's personal scrapbook of childhood memories. There are no references to drugs or politics-he was just six at the time, so the book highlights all the fun stuff of the era that a kid would remember: fads, fashions, entertainment, food and toys.
There are some full-color photos of rare '60s treasures that lead readers down memory lane, including album covers, colorful soda bottles, innovative automobiles and collectible issues of Playboy. A California native who attended UC-Berkeley, Lifson wrote a senior thesis that explored how the television programs of the '60s mirrored the events of that era. He remains a virtual encyclopedia of '60s trivia and occasionally rides his lime green Schwinn Sting-Ray around the block. In the Hartford Courant, Carole Goldberg describes the book as "sure to stir up nostalgia" and an "undeniably lively tour of the not-so-long-ago."

Loved this fun book about a wonderfully fun and exciting year. Composed by a, now adult, child of the 60's, the photo heavy, copy light, book focuses on the fads, fashions, entertainment and foods of the year. With each page, I couldn't help but smile with warm memories of my childhood. If you lived during this time, I'm sure you will enjoy it as well. If you are too young to have been around in the 60's, it's a great chance to see what fun you missed. I promise....it WILL make you smile! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This book takes you on a fun trip down Memory Lane. It is a very humerous book. Hal Lifson relates his story of 1966 very well. Mr Lifson has a gift for recognizing back then and now, what is really super cool. Thanks for the memories Hal! It was great to be taken back to our childhood where we could remember what we watched, listen to, went to and ate, wore, played with and even what we drank! The photos were spectacular!! This is a feel good book! It is a must for anyone interested in 1966!!! Chas YoungWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
