KLIATT - George Galuschak
Haley Danelle's best friends are vanishing. Instead of contacting the police or the FBI, Haley calls in the big guns: the Hardy boys. Frank and Joe have been upgraded for the 21st century—both are members of A.T.A.C. (American Teens Against Crime), neither wears a suit or tie, and Joe has a MyFacePlace.Com page. The Hardy boys race around town examining the crime scenes for clues, whilst being menaced by rolling pianos and falling light fixtures. A note in a bassoon leads the brothers to a hip cyber cafe; all clues point to a cyber stalker. Can the Hardy boys solve the case, old school style? The Hardy Boys is a good choice for younger readers. The plot is fast moving and the dialogue is full of one-liners and corny chapter headings. The full-color art delivers loads of action as well as the latest teen fashions. Older readers may detect a note of irony in the author's dialogue; at one point Joe tells Frank "you aren't as hip as I am," which I'm sure was true during the Eisenhower administration. The Hardy Boys contains comic book violence and is recommended for pre-teen/young teen graphic novel collections, especially if the Hardy Boys series is popular at your library.
