I finished this book earlier tonight & my thoughts are so full I hardly know where to start...
First things first - I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
Half Black Soul is one of my favourite books! I don't give 5 stars easily, so I hope that's an indication of how much I enjoyed this amazing read.
The fact that the book was written in the first person from both Alexa's & Nelly's point of view was awesome! I loved getting to know both characters better, especially Nelly. It was great how Nelly developed as a person when Alexa wasn't there to shelter her anymore & I was so happy how she stepped up & grew in this book. Alexa on the other hand is still my favourite character - I'm so impressed by her strength & determination but also felt her pain & torment with her inner struggle. The book is so well written that you can't help but "feel" with the characters you're reading about. Can I just add that I'm totally in love with Kayden... Swoon! I got butterflies when he kissed Alexa - imagine how she felt...
I absolutely loved the twists in the book - it's wonderful when authors keep their readers on their toes! I have mixed emotions regarding the ending, since I LOVE cliffhangers (they're just so exciting!) but on the other hand, I'm going all jittery at the thought of having to wait for the next book!
HD Gordon, all I can say is thank you & congratulations on an amazing book & please hurry up - I NEED the next book since I'm thoroughly hooked!!! :D

Lady Luck struck twice! Thanks again to the good people over at Shut Up & Read on GoodReads for entrusting me to give an honest review.
After reading Blood Warrior, I begged for more romance and more fighting. After reading Half Black Soul, I feel as if I’ve been injected with a syringe containing concentrated lust and death. Seriously I’m having an excitement OVERLOAD here and need to calm down before I pass out.
Everything you could ask for people is IN THIS BOOK:
♥ Steamy moments
♥ Little Nelly growing up and showing her powers off
♥ Kayden, oh Kayden…..be still my heart…boy if you only knew what I want to do to…. *clearing my throat* Pardon me!
♥ Fighting,(NO) correction, kicking butt, (NO) correction, BRIGHT RED BLOOD making the green grass grow…..HOOAH!
♥ And in the center of it all, Alexa.(One schizophrenic bad azz heroine that I love so much!)
This is my new favorite book. 5 stars is a rip off and does it no justice. EPIC, that’s what it is!
Now this I'll pay BIG BUCKS to see on the big screen! Whenever I’m feeling down, sad, or just plan peeved off, I’ll always have the memory of HALF BLACK SOUL to put a smile on my face.
If you haven’t read this book, you’re delusional. You should be put in a straight jacket and refined to a time out corner, because seriously this read is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Half Black Soul picks up where Blood Warrior left off and catapults you to a whole other degree of action packed adventure. I loved the change of scenery and while disconcerting initially, the change in perspectives from Nelly to Alexa. There are more than a few surprises in this second installment of the Blood Warrior saga. It is rare when a YA paranormal novel surprises me, but Gordon did it in spades with Half Black Soul. This was such a quick, rapid and addictive read, I didn't want to put it down. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

"Half Black Soul" picks up where "Redemption" left off. Alexa finds out that her mother is not dead like she thought but in the evil king's prison. Alexia embarks on a perilous journey to rescue her mother while leaving her sister, Nelly behind in Two Rivers. Nelly is not happy that Alexia left without telling her. Nelly is determined to find out why Alexia left and what is really going on in Two Rivers. Friendships will be tested, and secrets will be revealed. Are Alexia and Nelly prepared for the task before them and will they survive?
The author tells this story from Alexia's and Nelly's point of view. Through descriptive details, we are able to see their inner struggles and the development of each character. This story is full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read "The Rise" to see what happens next!

The second book in the Alexa Montgomery series picks up right where the first one left off. In this book we get to see Alexa grow into her role as a Sun Warrior. It is a difficult struggle for her, though, to embrace her destiny and accept what she sees as a monster inside of her. We also got to see her grow as a person as she searches out her feelings for Kayden.
I loved that we got Nelly's POV in this book. She is a great character and you can see, though she did not play a big role in book one, she is quickly becoming crucial to the plot of the story. I liked the fact that we got to know her a little bit better and were able to invest ourselves in her more.
The world the author created for this book was wonderful. She has a way of painting a picture with her words that flow right off the page. This series is fast becoming a favorite for me.

The “Half Black Soul” is packed with action and revelations. I love how fierce and loyal both Alexa and Nelly are to each other. They would both give their lives to save those they love. Alexa has always been strong, and able to take care of herself, but in this book, Nelly really comes into her own person. She begins to understand her true powers and what lengths she will go to keep her sister safe. I've really grown to respect Nelly as a character in this book, as she is no longer a helpless little girl relying on her sister to save her. She begins fighting back and trying to do her part in ridding Two Rivers of the evil that is lurking in the shadows. This book is jam packed with action and the ending has a major twist that leaves you begging for more. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Once again I'm left at WOW.
What I loved about this book:
*Alexa, her inner strength, humanness, vulnerability, intuition and ability to protect others in spite of her own safety.
*Kayden, the silent hero who doesn't pretend to be anything other than himself. What you see is what you get and it will always be honest.
*Nelly and her ability to trust and love Alexa unconditionally.
*Soraya and Akira, two little girls who are about 7 and 5, who embody innocence, pure love, have this powerful ability to take on the pain of others and are wise beyond their years. These two little girls were named after the authors daughters. *Beautiful tribute to them.*
*Action packed from the beginning and fast paced through out.
*Mysteries are quickly revealed and the reader doesn't have to go through a thousand hoops to find out the answers to all these secrets.
*How nicely the plot unfolded.
*Every single twist.
What I didn't love about this book:
***Can't stand "The Mom".***
Half Black Soul kicks off exactly where Blood Warrior ends and things start to happen rather quickly. This book took on the POV's of Alexa and Nelly, each taking a turn in letting the reader know what was happening on the road with Alexa and what was happening back at Two Rivers where Nelly was left behind. I mentioned in my review of Blood Warrior that I had a hard time believing in this connection Alexa and Nelly shared because of the intro we were given. In this book, having Nelly's POV allows the reader to get her as a person/powerful being and to better understand that connection.
I didn't mention the little girls in the last review because honestly I forgot to but they do prove to be very important to me. Alexa is having a hard time holding on to her humanity or what she feels is right and wrong. She is having a hard time dealing with who she has to be although she puts up the front that she accepts it knowing she is who she is and that's ok. These two little girls offer her a love that she is not used to because of how she was raised. They are willing to take on her pain and protect her even though Alexa is supposed to be protecting them. They don't judge her and tell her that she is good. Kids of that age, 5 and 7, are good readers of people. They will either like you or they won't and it is on a very deep level where the reasoning only makes sense to them. The interactions between Soraya/Alexa and Akira/Alexa occur when Alexa feels the most darkness within her soul and they bring along a very different light than Kayden. Through all of this Alexa as broken as she feels, is still strong, pushes forward because she has no other choice, grows as a person and as a woman, breaking down at all the appropriate moments. All of this I could appreciate.
Honestly, there were no bad parts in this book. I think the only bad part is that we have to wait for book three and the author plans on having as many books as the characters will give. I hate to wait so long but what can you do?
On to the next!

"There is no feeling that is comparable to that of being truly lost. I don’t mean lost in the woods, or desert, but lost in the way that only can happen internally. Lost to the deepest, blackest pit of your soul, clinging to ghosts of past times, when you thought you knew who and what you were.”
Awesome, just awesome. Why are you even reading this? Read the book!
"They say that change happens over time. I think change happens in rapid moments, moments that are as unpredictable as love, as fleeting, and moments that possess you, rather than the other way around.”
In the second book of the AM Saga we get to know Alexa and Nelly better through the different POV's. Secrets are revealed and there are some twists toward the end that'll make you wanting more of these amazing books. If you want to know what, just read the book!
The writing is as brilliant as the first book, if not better. H.D. Gordon is a genius and amazing storyteller. Keep up the good work!
"What remains now is no longer a question of whether I can overcome my inclinations, but rather a question of redemption."
Alexa is a badass heroine. She's an ass-kicking, stubborn, caring, protective girl that has (often hilareous) inner conversations with her bad side, wich she calls monster. Beat that Bella Swan! (Sorry, had to say that! Lolz.)
Jackson is a stupid ass untill further notice. Nelly is also badass and Kayden is just yummy. So yeah, that's it. =)
"If God had called me up to heaven, and told me that I was allowed to build a man to belong to me, I would have built myself a Kayden."
Thank you, H.D. for this brilliant book!

In book 2 Alexa has to go through so much to reach her mother..and the doubt and the fear for having to leave her sister behind is very trying for her. Full of adventure and a blossoming love that Alexa is trying not to happen due to the boyfriend left behind. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. After Blood Warrior, I was so excited to get my hands on this sequel. Inexplicably I kept putting off reading it. Now that I’ve finished it, I see why. I didn’t care for it as well. I’ll continue with the series but this is a definite bridge installment.
The writing is still very good and it’s a quick read. Kayden is the MAN – still. And now he’s the MAN in capital letters. The action scenes were compelling. I liked being able to keep up with Two Rivers while Alexa was away through Nelly. While not a fan of the changing POV though I was glad to get to know Nelly better. However, I understand we had to have something for Nelly to do in the interim but did she have to follow in Alexa’s footsteps exactly? That didn’t work for me and to add to the lost sense it gave me it was added to by having Alexa’s ‘monster” have her own point of view. Also mis-spellings (wreak instead of wreck) & incorrect homonyms (passed instead of past, etc.) was distracting.
Bottom line this episode didn’t feel as if it furthered the storyline much it seemed to level the playing field by making the story have multiple heroines and ensuring they had the same information.

The first book in this series is good and the second book is amazing. The writer has come a long way in her writing style since the first book and this book is such an easy, enjoyable read. The ending of this book killed me as the next one is not out for a while! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

First things first....
Alexa is the Ish!!!
I was one of the lucky ones to receive this book a day before it was to be released! I didn’t know how in the world H.D. was going to top Blood Warrior but did she prove me wrong? Hell Yes!!! I am dangerously obsessed with this series and we are only two books in. H.D. needs to be locked up and throw away the key because this book is insane!!
We start back where we left off in the first book and boy ole boy H.D. wastes no time with getting straight to the action! I really loved how the beginning didn’t drag with the whole retailing of the first book like other book series do. In Half Black Soul the story continues on a fast past with bits and pieces of important information from the first book as well.
In this installment we really get to see how well H.D. has grown as a writer and story teller as we read each book. I love that in the first book we had Alexa as the main character and we got to experience her journey from her point of view with her and we also had these amazing supporting characters that we have grown to love as much as the protagonist. But in Half Black Soul we get to see Nelliana’s point of view as well.
The story gets way more interesting with the different POV’s and sides of the story. We get to see a side of Nelly that we would have never saw coming if we weren’t inside her head. We also get to see Alexa and Nelly’s characters evolve and become more and more conflicted and dark with each book. Because where ever theirs light darkness hovers and we really get to see this theory play out throughout the entire read.We now see that Nelly and Alexa are two totally different people but as the secrets come out we can tell that they are really not so different at all. There were so many twist,turns,shocker’s,poetic,Kick-buttness, and heart breaking moments that I cannot even guess where this book is headed(which is bad ass) because H.D. had me guessing the entire read.
H.D. you really broke my heart with what happened with Jackson... (Lolz)
-If your wanting a ride here it is……What are you waiting for!!
I can’t wait to read the third book!
