Overview

Biomites are artificial stem cells that can replace any cell in your body. No more kidney failure, no severed spines or blood disease. No cancer. Pharmaceuticals become obsolete. With each dose of biomites, we become stronger, we become smarter and prettier.

We become better.

At what point are we no longer human?

Nix Richards nearly died in a car accident when he was young. Biomites saved his life. Ten years later, he's not so lucky. The Halfskin Laws decree a human composed of 50% biomites is no longer human. Halfskins have no legal rights and will have their biomites shutdown. It's not called murder, merely deactivation.

Cali Richards has been Nix's legal guardian since their parents died. She has lost far too many people in her life to let the government take Nix. She is a nanobiometric engineer and will discover how to hide him. But even brilliance can succumb to the pressure of suffering. And technology can't cure insanity.

Cali and Nix keep a slippery grip on reality as they elude a maniacal federal agent dedicated to saving humanity from what he calls 'The Biomite Plague'.

Barnes and Noble - Curtis Hox
If you've read Greg Bear's Blood Music and were both intrigued and creeped out about what would happen with runaway biotech, you'll get Halfskin. First, the title was one of those titles I was jealous I didn't come up with. Just love it. The premise is also simple and original: you can seed your body with recuperative nanotech, but once you hit a critical point--the point your original biology is replaced with the synthetic--you get executed (yeah, federal law). The tension is between a young bi

Halfskin is science fiction. This novel is about a process that goes beyond modern medicine. A process that has the potential to change mankind forever, if mankind will let it. This book is $2.99 for the kindle. Free for Amazon prime members.

Biomites are artificial stem cells that can be injected into a human body to help heal injuries, even catastrophic injuries. Biomites can also be used to enhance humans, and that scares some people. There are biomite laws that make it illegal for a

As usual, Bertauski didn't take the normal path. Biomites, medicine, & lives collide in our world with religion & law. There were a few things I kept waiting to see addressed. They weren't. Instead the story went in some very interesting other directions. I'm not quite sure where we wound up, but it was an interesting trip & I still have a lot to think about.

Perhaps the coolest thing about this is that it isn't really that far out in any respect. I was just reading an article by Kurzwe

I truly loved this book, I wish it lasted longer! While I normally don't like sci-fi, this was extremely relatable and easy to understand. I also loved the way the author would put "mini" stories not really related to the actual characters throughout the book. It made sense in the overall way he was trying to make the scientific connection of the storyline to what is going on in the world at the time. Couldn't put it down!

820 pages. I loved this book! Got it last night, just finished it. It grabs you in right away and holds on till the end. Fast moving. It barely lets go. I highly recommend this book, I am planning on checking this author out.

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and thought provoking. With technology and medicine combing to enhance human performance, replace defects and repair injuries with synthetic cells that reproduce, at what point are you no longer human? Or are you still human even if you are 100 % biomites? I highly recommend this book to everyone. This may be our future.

Fascinating account of what might be... and the twist at the end was heartbreaking. Already purchased the sequel 'Clay'. This is the first book I have read of Tony's but it certainly won't be the last. Very enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

Fresh, danger makes the characters desperate. What does make us "human"?
