Meet the Author

Linda Hartough was born in New Jersey and raised in Delaware. Although her father was an avid golfer, Linda had absolutely no idea what fate had in store for her art career. After attending the University of Louisville and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Linda started selling her paintings (with non-golf themes) at art fairs in the Chicago area. She soon moved to the South Carolina area and took commissions to paint portraits, landscapes and horses. She entered into golf landscape painting with a commission from Augusta National to paint the 13th hole. Hartough was able to approach golf landscapes with an understanding but objective eye. She instinctively knew that each work had to be more than a view of a golf course; it also had to work as a landscape painting. Her success in the genre has been extraordinary. Both the United States Golf Association and the Championship Committee of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews chose Linda for ongoing commissions; she creates the official course paintings that are exhibited at the U.S. and British Opens. Five of her paintings were included in “The Most Dramatic Holes in Golf,” an ABC-TV special hosted by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Whitaker. Perhaps the highest accolade for her work came from renowned golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. When asked what one thing he would save from a fire, he chose Hartough’s painting of the 16th hole at the Hazeltine National Golf Course.
