Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
An annoyed boy takes inventory of his ghost-plagued abode in Halloween Countdown, converted to board-book format from the picture book by Jack Prelutsky, illus. by Dan Yaccarino. "There are ten ghosts in the pantry,/ There are nine upon the stairs,/ There are eight ghosts in the attic,/ There are seven on the chairs."
Children's Literature
Prelutsky's text is taken from his 1977 book entitled It's Halloween. It joins one of many books celebrating this kid-favorite holiday by counting down. Once again it is ghosts, but this board book starts from ten with "ten ghosts in the pantry" and continues to reduce the numbers from various locations in the house until there is only one, and his final Boo will not be much of a scare. Yaccarino's style is readily recognized and the pallet is light, as is the tone. This ghostly counting book can be used with kids, and parents need not have any fears of bad dreams or even a mild scare. 2002 (orig. 1977), HarperFestival,
— Marilyn Courtot
School Library Journal
PreS-Friendly looking ghosts illustrate this simple but effective concept book. The text was originally published as "Countdown" in Prelutsky's It's Halloween (Greenwillow, 1977). Here, in a board-book format, the flowing verse follows the antics of the phantoms that have invaded a boy's home. The benign-looking creatures are clearly delineated against bold expanses of color, making them easy to count. A solid seasonal addition.-Hannah Hoppe, Miles City Public Library, MT Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
