Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This book will be a good choice to read-aloud. The words are just plain fun—Hurry! Scurry!, Frisk, whisk, whirl, and more. Mice in their Halloween costumes are out to celebrate the big night. They race through a cornfield and a pumpkin patch on their way to a big party. They dance and suddenly stop to listen. Oh my, a big orange striped cat threatens to spoil their fun. But these smart little creatures come up with a clever scheme to scare the cat away. The simple text is delightful and the watercolor illustrations perfectly capture the expressions on the faces of the mice and the cat. There will be many ways to describe movement such as scamper, scramble, swirling, skitter, scurry, and tiptoe. Lots of "s" words for young listeners to learn. Originally published as a picture book, this board book version is still a delight for both listening and pouring over the illustrations. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
