    Yea, again

I am a great fan, and this is another great Christie read. She combines suspense, comedy and wonderful details of the period along with banterous dialogue between Poirot and Oliver to bring a wonderful mystery to be read over and over. Bravo!
If your looking for lots of gun fire, bloody scenes and profanity, look else where. You won't find them here, fortunately.

    Halloween Party

The book Halloween Party by Agatha Christie was a great book to read. The book was written a long time ago when technology wasn¿t as good as it is today. A girl, named Joyce, was killed at a Halloween party when no one was around so no one knows who the killer is.Halloween Party has more than one conflict, but the major one is finding the young girl¿s killer. Mrs. Oliver was also at the party. She is a well known murder story writer, and she heard the girl say something about a murder she had seen when she was a little girl. No one thought anything of it because she had been known to tell stories. In fact, people even made fun of her and cracked jokes about her story. She got mad about it and left everyone else. She went into the library of the house where they had had the apple bobbing contest. The bucket of water was still sitting on the floor and when everyone was going home from the party they realized the girl wasn¿t around. People started searching for her and she was found drowned in the bucket. Hercule Poirot comes to help, and he finds out many clues about Joyce¿s killer but not enough to really point any fingers at any certain person. This is a great book to read if you read fast or just have a fair amount of time. However, it is confusing, and you also have to remember all the clues and really pay attention to follow the story correctly. The book is hard to understand because there are so many characters and so many questions that don¿t get answered through the story. More than one person sounds suspicious of the murder. But since there was no one in the room and clues were harder to come by, the killer is hard to find. Other than it being hard to understand, it is a great book to read and it makes you wonder who the killer is. Halloween Party was named this because that is where the whole book¿s story comes from. You have to read it to find out the person who killed Joyce, and it will be the person you would least likely expect. The book has a great mystery and also a few unexpected surprises that you almost can¿t believe.

    Great read!

The clues abound, if one is willing to take a look -- but, as always, the ending tells more than the clues! Great read!

    UNIQUE

It seems that in the later stories,1960's and later, Agatha still does not lose her cleverness. Wonderful stories are still popping up. I could not put this book down. I erad it in two days.

    This book is just okay

A girl told everyone that she saw a murder once. But after the Hallowe'en Party, she was found drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. But who among the people in the Hallowe'en Party had done it? Luckily, there were Hercule Poirot and Ariadne Oliver who will solve the case.

The characters are good. The plot is okay. Some of the middle scenes are boring. It is also thrilling. I like the writing style. The ending was surprising. This book is just okay.

    an OK book

In the little town of Woodleigh Common, a Halloween party is taking place. Amongst the guests is little Joyce Reynolds who claims to of witnessed a murder. Later that evening Joyce is found dead. Murdered so she would remain silent of a nasty secret? Hercule sure thinks and he is determined to find the perpatrator. This book was ok. The beginning was good and draws one deeper into the book. It gets kind of boring when Hercule is questioning all the guest. The ending could of been more informative. Though the storyline moves slowly, the plot is intresting and the conclusion is unexcepted.

    Highly Recommended

"Hallowe'en Party" started out a bit slow for the first few pages, and then the action and intrigue increased and it ended up being a very good read, one that I will no doubt read again. Of course Agatha Christie is one of my favorite authors!

Always enjoy Agatha Christie's work. I would have given it 5-stars except that the middle of the book seemed a bit off-track in relation to the over-all story. Lots of twists and turns in this one. What I particularly enjoy about Christie's work is that the facts are summed up at the end so that you always get a clear picture of who, what, when and why. Enjoyable read & recommend to all Christie fans.

It's a Halloween party when amidst the talks of murder, Joyce, a thirteen year old girl, boasts that she once witnessed a murder.

"I saw a murder once," said Joyce

But no one believes her and everyone thinks she is telling a tall tale since she is a known liar! Angry and swearing that she did see a murder, Joyce storms off but is later found murdered in the same house, drowned in a tub filled with water and apples.

"That's where she was found," said Mrs Oliver.
"Someone, you know, someone had shoved her head down into the water with the apples. Shoved her down and held her there so that she was dead, of course. Drowned. Drowned...."

Mrs Ariadne Oliver, a friend of Poirot and the famous mystery writer, who was present at the party seeks Poirot's help in solving Joyce's murder. But as they begin investigating it looks like this murder holds the secret to an old murder committed years ago.

Can Poirot solve Joyce's murder and in turn catch the "evil presence"?
What happened all those years ago that just a hint of scandal led to Joyce getting killed?

Everyone has a motive to hide something or the other and a web of lies has been weaved which Poirot and Mrs Oliver have to penetrate to reach the murderer who got away once and is sure of a repeat performance!

A yet another splendid book from the "Queen of Crime", Agatha Christie. Hallowe'en Party, is a book where the surroundings also have a character. Whether it be the spooky, dark and mysterious atmosphere at the Halloween Party or be it the sinister and deep-secrets-buried silence of the people. A story bound to keep you on the edge of your seat, Hallowe'en Party tests all our "little grey cells" as Poirot solves the murder mystery in his usual style and Mrs Oliver, true to her nature, is full of suggestions which range from weird to highly sinister as reasons for the murder!

I loved this book and highly recommend it all of you. A fitting "Halloween Day" reading. A full 5 on 5 to it. This review is also available on my blog Njkinny's World of Books..

I did not like the ending

I can't say I loved it. There are many comments about the story of Narcissus, the man who saw his reflection and fell in love with himself, a bit like Gollum and 'his precious'. Personally, I think Hercule Poirot is much like Narcissus himself, caring for his apearance more than his comfort. The story begins like most stories, on chapter one, when Joyce Reynolds claims to have seen a murder few people believe her, but one person, a murderer, takes her seriously, seriously enough to drown her (But I won't tell who). Hercule Poirot begins searching for who has got Joyce to kick the bucket. Who murdered Joyce, and why? You'll have to read and find out!
