Further cementing his status as the go-to guy for holiday music of all types, Chip Davis (a.k.a. A companion CD outfitted with bloodcurdling sound effects and dance remixes of "Creatures of the Night," as well as a bonus DVD of dance videos, make this three-disc set as necessary to All Hallow's Eve celebration as a costume and a bowl of candy.

All Music Guide
Chip Davis, the indefatigable keyboardist who's been churning out hits under the Mannheim Steamroller moniker since the 1970s, fires off another round of sonic scariness with Halloween, Vol. 2: Creatures Collection. The follow-up to 2004's Halloween Monster Mix, it focuses on modernized, synth-led versions of classic themes from horror films and TV shows, such as Psycho and Dark Shadows. Davis is best known for Christmas music, but this disc shows he can handle horrific soundscapes just as well.

I have loved MS since the first Fresh Aire, and I own most of the albums. This falls FAR short of any of the previous albums. I loved the first Halloween compilation, with it's combination of updated classical tracks and a few original tracks. This album has NO classical inspiration at all. Deriving entirely from pop culture, all mr. Davis seems to have done is lay down an endless ba-boom chi-chik, ba-boom chi-chick and layer some marginally recognizable tunes over the top. My wife described it as being just like Philip Glass, but without as much melody...The second disc has some interesting environmental tracks (the only reason this album got a second star) - but these would be best used as part of a haunted house; certainly not something you would put on just to listen to. The last third, however, is just back to more techno-mix. Listen on-line if you have to, but don't bother buying it; I can't imagine anyone would want to listen to this more than once - if that much.
