Overview

Wars end. But hatred, guilt, and devotion can endure beyond the grave.

With the Covenant War over, the Office of Naval Intelligence faces old grievances rising again to threaten Earth. The angry, bitter colonies, still with scores to settle from the insurrection put on hold for thirty years, now want justice -- and so does a man whose life was torn apart by ONI when his daughter was abducted for the SPARTAN-II program. Black ops squad Kilo-Five find their loyalties tested beyond breaking point when the father of their Spartan comrade, still searching for the truth about her disappearance, prepares to glass Earth's cities to get an answer. How far will Kilo-Five go to stop him? And will he be able to live with the truth when he finds it? The painful answer lies with a man long dead, and a conscience that still survives in the most unlikely, undiscovered place.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

“Traviss here employs a raw, unadorned style that makes this a real page-turner. But while Dictata is a quick read, it's not quickly forgotten…. Dictata is also Traviss's best Halo novel…” —Paul Semel, Official Xbox Magazine

I would have to say that this was a pretty decent book. Karen Traviss has a really interesting way of turning who you initially thought were the good guys and heros and show you their darker/evil side. I also like the change of pace and how the trilogy doesn't focus on John and Cotana but instead takes a washed out Spartan II, 3 ODSTs, a linguist, and a fully augmented Spartan and showa you a different side of the Halo universe. I also really liked how she's spanned the gap between Halo: 3 and Halo: 4 so you know where Infinity came from as well as Jul 'Madama. All in all I don't think it was a good as the first two but it was still a good read.

This series has stolen the mantle of my favorite series and for good reason. Those of you who still cling to Master Chief and Cortana and say the series is horrible must learn that Halo does not solely revolve around those two. Other people can make the universe great and enjoyable. So, stop griping about the insignigicant details and enjoy this series for what it is: a true masterpiece.

I have read many books by dozens of authors and usually you can guess where they are heading bur karen travis does such an amazing job your plan A and B will go out the window leaving you with Plan C, just keep reading! I hope that others love this book as much as I do where it is told from the soldiers view along with their internal conflicts! Enjoy, and may slipspace never separate you through time or space from the ones you love!

Best book in the series so far. A great read for all halo fans, even if you haven't read the other entries in the series. Looking forward to the next installment.

Karen Traviss is perhaps the best auhor for this series. Taking the cold and mechanical but enourmously popular HALO series, she injects her own Star Wars-honed brand of strongly charachterized thriller in. The previous two bookd in the series provided charachters so strong you could bash them with a stick, plot thick enough to build a house out of, and one of my personal favorite cliffhangers ever- see how it's resolved here.

This book, while shorter than the first 2 in this trilogy, is pretty good. Don't feed the trolls who keep clamoring for John and Cortana. The Kilo-Five Trilogy is a good peek into the Halo universe and lets you find out who is where and why when Halo 4 starts.

Fills gaps in the halo universe nicely. And also gives a good idea at the things to come if you know halo well and can pick up on it all. Good book.

I'm a complete Halo addict. Played every game, Halo tattoos, the works. I find this set of books to be amazing. So very well written and gives everything a new perspective. It talks about the real reasons the Spartans were made, how the kidnapping went down, and the life outside the covie war. I enjoy these books greatly and think any Halo fan should read them. The best thing about books, is that they go into more details than the games. They show the other stories, the other point of view, the background.

I very much enjoyed this trilogy, and wish that there were more like it. I thought that it neatly filled in the gap between halo 3 and halo 4. For all of you haters out there, i believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I also enjoyed the way it portraid the opinions that all of kilo 5 had on halsey, including her very own spartan 2s. Overall great book, and if the author is reading this, (probably not) please make a fourth book!

This is a book that requires a very deep level of understanding and those of you who don't think it's a good book or series obviously don't have it. I hope there is a fourth book in this series! Thanks for another amazing book, Miss Traviss!

This was a GREAT read. It was much shorter than the previous books, but it was still an excellent book. It should have gone to Jul's point of view from time to time like it did in the previous books in my opinion. Overall, it was a great way to end the trilogy and I can't wait to see what Mrs. Traviss does next.
