    Disappointingly dull.

    What I liked about Empress (the first of the series) was the originality of the story, the high level of character development, and the dark themes surrounding it. "The Riven Kingdom (2nd book) was much more typical in its story. The characters although well developed were one sided and the plot was your standard cookie cutter fantasy adventure. It seems to me the 3rd book just throws out everything that made the first a success and simply continues the story evoking just enough emotion from the reader to make him/her finish.

    The flow of the story is slow and tedious. Most of the characters are predictable, archetypal designs and can be summed up in a few short sentences, for example: Rhian (the main character) is a frustratingly arrogant teenaged girl who spends half of her time being angry at the world, and the other half sulking about, thinking shes a bad person. Dexterity (2ndary character) is an aging toymaker who always takes the moral high ground while he goes around trying to fix the world with hugs and kisses and occasionally bursts into flame. Zandakar.. Sweet Zandakar. I wanted to like him, I really truly did. I cheered him on in all 3 books. I was hoping at the end of the 2nd that he'd be given a vocabulary outside of "Zho, Wei, Yothzay".. and I was obliged. He was given the language skills of a 7 year old. It seemed to me the author got it into her head to create a romance between him and Rhian although she mostly neglected in nurturing and simply used it as a convenient plot device. Alot could have come from this had it been nurtured from the beginning.

    Maybe I've just grown spoiled on good books but this was a disappointing read. I was expecting alot more from this book and so it pains me to say it but the emotion this book is proficient in inspiring is apathy.

    Hammer of the god by karen miller

    I enjoyed this last addition to the series. It kept me interested the whole way through. I only wish there were more upcoming titles with these same charachters but it was a good ending.

    good overall, but look for missprint

    Overall, this was a good conclusion to the trilogy. Great balance of characters. However, my book was a missprint.Goes from page 182 to 583 and at page 614 it goes back to page 215. 583-614 are also in the right place in the book. Pages 183-213 are nowhere in the book. I would not order online to ensure your book is printed correctly. An intrigal part of the book is missing.

    Great ending to the series!

    I have enjoyed all of Karen Miller's works so far, including under her alternate pen name K.E. Mills. Karen Miller is the serious side of her writing with a little humor mixed in. The Godspeakers are on the darker end of the spectrum of her writing. In this book, she finishes tying Empress and Riven Kingdom with the collision of the two kingdoms with a liberal mixing of an Oriental-influenced Empire and all its magic. Rhian grows even more, Zandakar becomes the man he was meant to be, and Dex learns more about what God needs from him. Hekat and Dimmi are in for a rude awakening.

    The third and final Godspeaker book is fantstic

    The Kingdom of Ethrea has never been ruled by a female. So when the current monarch dies his only offspring, his daughter Rhian, claims the throne. However many of her noblemen, even her spouse King Alasdair, reject her assertion on the grounds there will be a woman ruler.

    While Ethrea is split apart with a royal dispute, neighboring Empress Hekat, who reigns with an iron fist based on her belief in her divine right of rule, feels God has intervened for her; she plans to conquer the divided kingdom. She leads her Mijak warhost horde into Ethrea where the ruling Queen is isolated with no internal allies or external trading neighbors to help her defend her people. Her only possible alliance is with Emperor Han of the seemingly strange Tzhung-tzhungchai, but she fears the price of allowing his army inside Ethrea as she distrusts they will leave once they occupy the land.

    The third and final Godspeaker book (see EMPRESS and THE RIVEN KINGDOM) continues the complex saga of two female rulers heading to a conflation; that is if Rhian survives internal treachery. The pair are opposites starting with their upbringing and in many other ways yet share a belief they belong on their respective throne; one believes peace will bring prosperity to everyone while the other feels THE HAMMER OF God war will bring her vision of prosperity to the land. To fully grasp the nuances of this egnaging fast-paced finish, readers should read the first two tales before breathlessly waiting for what seems the eventual final battle over whose vision will rule.
