PreS-The right tool for the right job can be found in this presentation of implements and gadgets. An art room, garden, kitchen, and office are among the work areas shown, along with the plethora of objects one might find in each location. A two-page spread labels the items, and the next spread shows them in their proper place and in use. Homey, bright watercolors fill the pages. Multicultural characters are portrayed, and traditional male/female roles are often reversed. A book that is better for one-on-one sharing than for reading aloud.-Joyce Richards, Prairie Grove Elementary School, AR

-3 yrs. This perky picture dictionary for the lap set presents various kinds of tools and utensils used around the house, in the preschool, and at the office. Double-page spreads with bright, captioned drawings set against crisp white space alternate with energetic compositions that incorporate the objects to be identified. They also show families of different races and generations where girls are welcome in the workrooms and boardrooms and where boys help cook and clean. While there are a few minor quibbles, adults are likely to learn a few things, too. "Printed on tough card pages."
