Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Purse-loving gals will be unable to resist Handbag Friends by Sally Lloyd-Jones, illus. by Sue Heap, with its pink purse-shaped cover, die-cut in a heart shape to reveal the six title pals, and dandy handle on the spine. The pages introduce the half-dozen stars and "The Handbag Song," then segues to a harrowing tale of kidnapped baby handbags and how the sextet came to live within the pink pocketbook. Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This handbag-shaped picture book with a pink handle and pink hearts target female toddlers who may want to emulate their mothers. The first page has a space to put the child's name so this book is meant to be a personal purchase. The characters who live in the handbag are introduced, followed by the handbag song. Then kids are offered the story of how all these creatures came to reside in such an unlikely place. The madcap adventure takes place in three parts. The friends head off to the planet where pink handbags are made and discover that the bags are being held prisoner. They effect an escape and at the end of the "fairy tale," they are rewarded by the princess with a home in one of her beautiful handbags. The credits at the back won't do much for kids, but adult readers may find them amusing.
