Editorial Reviews

Richard Mouw
"In these pages, the Baldas not only demonstrate their expert grasp of the scholarship on leadership, they also offer much biblical wisdom in addressing the wounds that come to all who are called to lead. An important book for leaders and followers alike!"
Doctor - Mimi Haddad
"Candidly exploring the perils of leadership, Handbook for Battered Leaders brings the depth of Scripture, personal experience and business theory to offer hope and healing to new and experienced leaders."
Steven G. W. Moore
"This is a troubling book. It is troubling in part because it places the laser light of truth on one of the sore spots of the Christian organizations around us. It also challenges us to quit whining or adopting the convenient 'victim' attitudes that are easily at hand in our culture. The Baldas do not provide comprehensive solutions or simplistic ones. But they do make a valuable contribution to the conversations and the work that needs to be done if our organizations are going to honor the kingdom we seek to make a reality . . . on earth as it is in heaven."
Walter C. Wright Jr.
"The Baldas remind us with uncomfortable clarity that leadership is work--hard work. When it is done well the leader often bears the brunt of the fear and pain created by accountability and change. Painless leadership is an oxymoron. Why would anyone accept responsibility for leadership? As they suggest, only an intentional focus on mission and relationships offers the hope to embrace the battering. This book lifts up the cost and purpose of leadership within organizations."
Doctor - Sam Rima
"Janis and Wesley Balda have truly written a 'handbook' for battered leaders. Using the apostle Paul's leadership challenges enumerated in 2 Corinthians as a case study, the Baldas help us examine these experiences with a new lens and integrate the best of leadership and management literature to help leaders navigate the often rocky shoals of church and organizational leadership. The very practical 'Tool Box' at the end of each chapter is particularly helpful. It is a book that should be read by every leader!"
