This book provides a comprehensive guide to scanning techniques, which will be of practical use to technologists, radiographers and radiologists involved in MRI.
Description: This MRI handbook is divided into two main sections covering practical concepts of MRI and examination. The previous edition was published in 1999.
Purpose: The purpose is to outline scanning techniques and protocols in MRI and to provide a step-by-step guide to imaging every part of the body. The book is a must for technologists studying for the MRI Registry.
Audience: It is most appropriate for technologists who have had experience in MRI and it would be beneficial for residents, fellows, and practitioners. Chapters 2-5 would be helpful for practitioners who have little knowledge in the field of MRI.
Features: The book treats the subject in depth and the authors have done a wonderful job of explaining the many trade-offs in MRI, which is not easy to do. The many illustrations and images are the best I've seen. The book goes into a bit too much depth for readers without practical exposure to scanning, but using it conjunction with the author's book, MRI in Practice, 3rd edition (Blackwell Publishing, 2005), would make it easier for those learning MRI. This handbook will be very helpful for technologists who are studying for the MRI board exam.
Assessment: The third edition is necessary because of the many recent software and hardware upgrades and advances in the field. It is a user-friendly and practical book that I will be able to use throughout my career.
