Description: This is the sixth edition of a practical, scientific guide to the nutritional principles and management of patients with different stages and types of kidney disorders (acute renal failure, progressive renal insufficiency, chronic renal failure, kidney stones, nephrotic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and renal transplantation). The revised chapters are authored by nutrition experts, dietitians, and nephrologists from the Americas and Europe.
Purpose: Intended to be a practical and comprehensive guide, this handbook covers all areas of nutrition as they relate to kidney disease over the span of 336 pages.
Audience: Everyone who provides care to patients with kidney disease will benefit from this book.
Features: Among the topics covered are nutritional needs for healthy adults, how diet can impact kidney function and how renal insufficiency can affect nutrient metabolism, assessment of nutritional status, management of lipid as well as calcium/phosphorus abnormalities and bone metabolism, requirements for trace minerals and vitamins, methods for assessing the adequacy of nutritional intervention in uremia, dietary guidelines, menus and lists of supplements.
