This new book in the series ""Neurological Disease and Therapy"" addresses gustation and olfaction, incorporating the contributions of experts in different areas from otorhinolaryngology to virology. Most of them work in the United States. The purpose is to present a synthesis of a large body of basic and clinical knowledge on the senses of smell and taste, dividing each sense in three clear sections that focus on basic anatomo-physiology, psychophysics, and neurophysiology, and in clinical applications. Thus, this book provides a needed reference book, largely meeting the editor's objective. The present book is basically oriented to neuroscientists, but it is also useful for neurologists and other clinicians in this field. The authors and contributors are in general known and credible authorities in their respective areas. This book includes many photographs, figures, charts, and tables that ease the understanding of the text. The references are voluminous and adequate giving an up-to-date, as well as an historical perspective. The table of contents is especially useful to navigate through this text printed in a high quality paper. This is an interesting book that offers strong basic scientific knowledge, along with clinical applications in olfaction and gustation fields, gathering material in one place that is not available in such a compiled way elsewhere. It will become a basic reference book for neuroscientists and clinicians interested in the senses of smell and taste.
