Editorial Reviews

Charles F. von Gunten
This is a compilation of diverse topics related to the care of patients with cancer. It specifically does not cover anticancer therapy. Rather, the book covers the multiple areas concerned with supporting a patient during cancer therapy. The book is meant to be a reference resource for health care practitioners who care for cancer patients. This is a worthy objective and well met by the editors. It is unique in its breadth of subject material. The editors have principally targeted oncologists, surgeons, and the other health professions which are involved in the care of cancer patients. I think it will also be useful for students in these disciplines as well. The editors and contributors are remarkable for the international scope. The book is well illustrated and visually appealing. It is most remarkable for a consistent outline style throughout the multiply authored chapters. This allows easy use as a reference for specific topics. The references are adequate and current. In general, I think this is an excellent addition to a reference library, whether that of a health practitioner, a medical office, or an institutional library. Of necessity, because of its breadth, the chapters do not treat their subjects in depth. However, it does an excellent job of cataloging, and making accessible, the multiple areas that are germane to the support of patients with cancer during their treatment.
Oncology Nursing Forum
"...a good, general reference for members of the medical oncology team. It offers a new choice among existing medical and nursing oncology references."
