All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Hang Cool Teddy Bear may not be an explicit sequel to Bat Out of Hell, but it sure has enough bombast to trick anybody into thinking it's the fourth volume of Bat. It's not, of course: unlike those three career-defining records, Hang Cool Teddy Bear boasts an actual narrative -- a hazy, unformed tale of a wounded soldier -- instead of merely being conceptual, a difference that should give the album shape, particularly when married with Rob Cavallo's crisp, bright production. Cavallo corrects all the errors of the heavy-handed metallic Bat Out of Hell III -- its slick processed grind playing like an unfortunate artifact from the moussed and teased '80 Sunset ...

    I Also Recommend:

    Enjoyable

While Hang Cool Teddy Bear is clearly no "Bat," it is rather enjoyable and dare I say...fun. Meat sounds like a true rocker in this album. While I do miss the signature stienman sound of this album, I must say Meat sounds like he is enjoying himself in this album. The songs are more mature, unlike the sea crazed teen in the bat albums. The signature song on here is a song written by Jon Bon Jovi called "Elvis In Vegas," which sounds as if meat actually wrote it. Meats Voice is obviously not what it used to be, but the passion and conviction that comes through make up for it. This is No Bat out of Hell, or for that matter some of his other non stienman albums that were excellent, but it is still a good one.

Hang Cool Teddy Bear is decidedly mediocre - Needs Jim Steinman's lyrics!!

Together Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are a dynamite team. Unfortunately most of the material on this CD don't have Steinman's lyrics. Steinman's lyrics are only included on this one with previously released material.

When Steinman writes the lyrics the CD's are great! Who can argue with Bat Out of Hell or Bat Out of Hell 2 and Dead Ringer.

Dead Ringer is fantastic and needs a broader audience. Anybody familiar with Fleetwood Mac's Rumors hears lyrics that portray relationships going through tough times. Dead Ringer recounts relationships 100 times worse than Rumors.

    Sorry for the rambling rant...

    Here's my brief synopsis:
    Bat Out of Hell
    Bat Out of Hell 2
    Dead Ringer

    all great.

Anything else, steer clear of it and don't waste your money!
