Editorial Reviews

Evening Echo/Irish Examiner
Child’s Play stick faithfully to the standard text in their new edition of Hansel and Gretel. The only surprises here are the ones Hansel and Gretel get in the wood. The old woman is suitably nasty and her house is decorated with just the right selection of lollipops, sweets and tiny cherry buns to entice any child inside. Absolutely true to tradition and beautifully illustrated by Andrea Petrlik.
Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
Part of a series entitled "Flip Up Fairy Tales," this book is a disappointment. The story itself is the cruelest of the series; and with the exception of the house made of candy, there is very little to enjoy about a tale in which the father takes his two children into the woods and leaves them to die. Even the flaps are small and stingy, without any of the sly humor of the other tales in the group. When the children cleverly survive their encounter with the witch and arrive back home, the father's saying, "I sent my wife away after what she made me do," just does not cut it. Do not let this one book turn you away from the others in this usually excellent and reasonably priced series.
