Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Sparse text and soft illustrations are used to describe the holiday's songs, games, and prayers. A brief explanation at the end of the book recounts the history of Hanukkah and the meaning of the symbols.
Children's Literature - Susie Wilde
Kimmelman's simple story about Hanukkah is full of fun and tradition. Now in board book format it reaches a younger audience with a button that plays "My Little Dreidel."
Ellen Mandel
Simple text and jovial watercolors convey the warmth and fun of a family's Hanukkah celebration. Each turn of the page brings a new night of the eight-night holiday and highlights a different traditional custom. Aunts chant holiday blessings on night three, uncles flip latkes on night four, even the humorous kittens who cavort among all the pages take a turn--they are featured on night seven, playing with chocolate gelt (money). In the lower right-hand corner of each double-page spread, a small Hanukkiyah, or menorah, displays the appropriate number of candles for each night, adding a candle-counting exercise to this playful presentation of holiday customs and activities.
