Overview

In her blockbuster international bestsellers, Harriet Evans perfectly captures the complex lives of young twenty-first-century career women with an “effortlessly readable . . . comic style and loveable characters” (Marie Claire, UK).

At twenty-two, Eleanor Bee is sure about three things: she wants to move to London and become a literary superstar; she wants to be able to afford to buy a coffee and croissant every morning; and after seeing what divorce did to her parents—especially her mum—she doesn’t believe in happy endings.

Elle moves to London. She gets a job at Bluebird Books, a charmingly old-fashioned publisher. She falls out of bars, wears too-short skirts, makes lots of mistakes, and feels like she’s learning nothing and everything at the same time. And then, out of the blue, she falls in love, and that’s when she realizes just how much growing up she has to do.

Ten years on, Elle lives in New York, and you could say she has found success; certainly her life has changed in ways she could never have predicted. But no matter where you go and how much you try to run away, the past has a funny way of catching up with you. . . .

    Disappointing

I have loved all the Harriet Evans books, except for this one. I felt like the story was extremely low paced and towards the end she rushed the ending. She also did not give Tom enough of a story...I wished I could have read more on him. The story itslef was good and Elle is a great character but I feel out of all her books this was the one that was more "commercial." I was not left with that delicious, happy, warm feeling in my chest after reading her book. That great satisfying feeling of a wonderful love and life story...

I have loved all of Harriet Evans' books to date, and anxiously

I have loved all of Harriet Evans' books to date, and anxiously awaited the release of this new one. However, I must say that this book did not compare to her previous novels. The story was choppy, jumping forward in time every few years, and the main character was extremely flighty and all over the place in her decisions for her life. Most disappointing was the development of the central "love story." With a title like "Happily Ever After," one would think that the author would have spent more time focusing on the romance, but it seemed to be an afterthought.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the book if you are looking for a beautiful love story, but it will keep you mildly entertained.

I love reading any Harriet Evans books and this one is no exception!!! I love how it was gut wrenching at times with relationships. But I fell in love all over again with Elle and Tom!
