Editorial Reviews

For most of us, fairy tales touch some primal chord. This appeal taps that appeal with new and reconstructed fairy tales by major genre writers including Gregory Maguire, Patricia Briggs, Peter Straub, Neil Gaiman, Holly Black, Charles de Lint, Bill Willingham, Susanna Clarke, and many others. A 450-page dip into the deepest core of childhood.

Publishers Weekly
Klima (Logorrhea) brings together many of the greatest minds in fantasy, horror, and young adult fiction in this rollicking reprint anthology of 33 diverse fairy tale retellings from the past two decades. Gregory Maguire's "The Seven Stage a Comeback" is a clever, mirthful sequel to Snow White. Peter Straub's "Ashputtle" turns Cinderella's plight into a shocking tale of psychological horror. Susanna Clarke's Victorianesque "Mr. Simonelli, or the Fairy Widower" follows a rector who discovers a family secret when he's assigned to a mysterious town in the English countryside. Neil Gaiman expertly flips a familiar trope on its head in "The Troll Bridge." These and other longtime authors are joined by equally talented newcomers such as K. Tempest Bradford and Genevieve Valentine. Fairy tale fans will give this volume pride of place on the shelf. (July)

I'm kind of a sucker for fairy tale-ish things, but even if I wasn't I would have liked this book. It has some really amazing authors. Of course some stories are better than others, but all in all it was quite good. Some of the stories were the king that your still thinking about days later. Loved it! highly highly recommend.

Some stories were better than others and at least one has been published in another anthology I have. Really, really wish they wouldn't do that as it was one of the best in the book. Also, not sure what the fascination with rapunzel is as there several variations of that story. Not bad overall, but not amazing either.

There was a very nice even collection of different works, based on various tales and it was a pleasant read.
