CARD 1
FRONT SIDE Happiness is a choice--not a response. As the Dalai Lama says: "Choose to be Happy."
FLIP SIDE Life is always going to have its ups and downs, ebbs and flows, triumphs and tribulations. If you want to be a happy person you must make the conscious decision to focus on the lesson to be learned and the new opportunity that inevitably will await you after any upset or change.

CARD 2
FRONT SIDE:
The purpose of your life is to find and do the purpose of your life.
FLIP SIDE:
Carl Jung believed that we humans all need to have some kind of quest in our lives to feel happy and fulfilled. When we don't, we develop addictions, which in actuality are "low level spiritual quests." Jung believed for a person to maintain a happy existence, it's essential to consistently pursue a healthful life purpose. Not only will cravings for bad habits dissipate, but happiness levels will increase spontaneously and substantially.

CARD 3
FRONT SIDE:
2 steps to happiness: 1) Do what you alone can do best; and 2) Lead a conscious life.
FLIP SIDE:
Aristotle believed a person's number one goal is the achievement of happiness and a person achieves happiness when a person fulfills their two functions.
Function #1: "The thing you alone can do and do best." For example, the function of a physician is to heal. The function of a ship builder is to build great ships. You must find your specific function.
Function #2: "The thing mankind alone can do and do best: be conscious." You as a human are the only rational animal capable of living a conscious life. According to Aristotle, a big secret to happiness is to lead a conscious life where you're always alert to the choices you make.

FRONT SIDE:
Watch out for ENVY. Don't compare your insides to someone else's outsides.
FLIP SIDE:
If we don't watch out, all too often our feelings of happiness can shift dramatically downward due to "Relative Deprivation Principle"*-when we foolishly compare ourselves to others that are better off than we are. It's thereby important to never determine our level of happiness by doing a side by side study of it in comparison to other's happiness. Or to quote Ecclesiastes 4:4: "I have also learned why people work so hard to succeed: It is because they envy the things their neighbors have. But it is useless. It is like chasing the wind....It is better to have only a little, with peace of mind, than be busy all the time with both hands, trying to catch the wind."

There's a little something called the "feel-good, do-good phenomenon."* Basically, this a psychologically proven theory that when you feel good about yourself you tend to do more good in the world for others-which then raises your self esteem thereby making you feel even good-er about yourself ┬Ěso you thereby do even good-er for others. Just as the rich might get richer, the happier thereby get happier and kinder-and thereby happier and kinder. Luckily you can jumpstart the "do-good/feel-good" cycle, by going out there and doing some good-even when you're feeling bad-and then you won't feel bad for long.
