Are you outside looking in? Most of us have a birth certificate that states the date and time of our birth; could you image not knowing your exact birth date? Well in this novel, "American Girl 1864: Happy Birthday, Addy!" that is the dilemma of Addy. Addy was born during the slavery era and she does not know her exact birth date. She needs to choose a date that she thinks is special to celebrate as her own special day. As Addy determines which day she wants as her birth date she learns a few things about the world around her in Philadelphia. Come in . step back to 1864, learn about Addy's life as well as the truths she learns in this book titled "Happy Birthday, Addy!" After the story the section "Looking Back: Growing Up in 1864" offers a brief history lesson for readers.
