Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Kit's family is running a boarding house in an effort to just survive during the Depression in 1930s America. Kit and her family believe that they are doing everything that they possibly can to make ends meet. Because money is so scarce, Kit knows that she'll never have a party for her tenth birthday. Then, out of the blue, practical Aunt Millie pays a surprise extended visit and begins to put her common-sense ideas to work, in an effort to make things a little easier for the Kittredge's. At first, Kit and her friends think Aunt Millie is the greatest, that her ideas are genius and that maybe, just maybe, there could be a birthday party. That is, until Aunt Millie's frugal ways start to embarrass Kit. American Girls' books are inspiring and full of clever ideas, and this one is no exception. The characters are well-developed, likable and believable. The historical fiction aspect aside, these books give girls of any era positive, strong-minded role models. This is number four in the series about "America's Great Depression" and is part of the American Girls Collection. Highly recommended. 2001, Pleasant Company, $12.95 and $5.95. Ages 7 up. Guess what happens as Kit is getting the sheets ready for the laundry? Kit has a wonderful surprise and as you read this fantastic tale of spring you'll discover her surprise. With an absorbing storyline and entertaining characters readers of book number 4, Happy Birthday, Kit! A Springtime Story: 1934, should be delighted by this novel. Read and "see" some magical transformations. This is a wonderful story for youth ages nine to twelve. The other books in this series are good too.

This book is about a girl named Kit Kitteredge, and she is living during the Great Depression. She wants a birthday party, but her family can't afford it...then Aunt Millie shows up--and wants to throw Kit a penny pincher party. But Kit says Aunt Millie is doing EVERYTHING wrong. You HAVE to read the book to find out what happens next. P.S.I found it VERY helpful when I was studying about the Great Depression

I LOVED it!!!!!!!!!!:)Kit Kitteredge and her family are short on money, and she wants a party but they can't afford such party. But then Kit's Aunt Millie(She's just called that, she's not her REAL aunt!)comes. Then Aunt Millie embarassed her in front of her school!!! And even though it's so tough to have a expensive party like that,Aunt Millie makes the Penny-Picher-Party,and it's for free!!!Even though it's so cheap,it turned out that it wasn't as bad as she thought. The Almanac When Aunt Millie leaves, the Kitteredges still have the Almanac. Inside is all that Aunt Millie did to save money. So they keep it and when she leaves they use that book to save all the money till' the Depression is over.

A pretty red-brown she-kit with bright blue eyes. Energetic, smart, and just a little bossy, but mostly kind. Has white paws.

Hello? I need some advice. I am 12 years old. I have short dark brown chin length hair and brown eyes. I am slightly overweight but my friends dont believe me when i tell them so. I play flute and clarinet. I habe a Huge crush on a guy named Andrew who is 11. He plays saxaphone. He has blonde hair blue eyes and braces and has the most amazing smile and charming voice. However, a fruend recently told me that he has a crush on another one of my friends but idk if its true. This week i will spend all day (Thursday) with him and I want it to be special. Ive asked my bff to ask him who he likes and to talk to me. Im worried. What if hes out of my reach? School is almost out and im afraid ill never have a chance. Any advice?
