About the Author

Erika Shields is a creative first and teacher second. She is homegrown in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area and that is where her characters reside. The inspiration for every book comes from her family, friends, students, and community. She is so happy to have worked with Gabriela and Jude on her first book!


Leon's illustrator is named Gabriela, but you can call her iela. She is an illustrator from Portugal, currently based in the city of Lagos, in Portugal. She consider myself a versatile artist who enjoys experimenting with different techniques. Although she primarily works in digital illustration, she loves challenging myself to explore more traditional techniques.

Through her art, she hopes to inspire a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around us. Whether it's bringing stories to life through illustrations or creating artwork that educates and inspires. She is an artist who keeps pushing herself everyday to become a better illustrator.
