Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jennie DeGenaro
One of the more sensitively written stories about horses is Kristin Earhart's paper back book about the pony Happy. Animals talk to each other and understand human conversation. Happy has always lived in a stall next to his mother. Everyone is kind to him, but one day he is sent to live at Big Apple Barn, a riding school for children. He almost gets in trouble the first day by listening to advice from another horse. He makes friends with a little mouse who gives him sound advice. As time goes by, Happy learns his beloved mother once lived at Big Apple Barn. He decides he is lucky to live there and he will enjoy being a school pony and teaching children to ride horses. At the end of the book is a glossary, which explains terms used primarily in literature about horses.

    What a wonderful series!

This is a wonderful book, the first in a great series. Fabulous for boys and girls! It is hard to find books about horses that are not completely geared for girls. Such a sweet, relatable story. Perfect for beginning chapter book readers!
