Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In this "Tilly and Friends Book," Hector the pig is quite happy sitting in Tilly's lap; in fact, the happiest he has ever been. The other friends, Tumpty the elephant and Doodle the alligator, are having a good time playing with toy cars. Pru the chicken is enjoying combing her feathers, and Tiptoe the rabbit is painting a picture, which he is happy doing, until he sees Hector and Tilly snuggled in the chair. He wants Tilly to play with him, so he climbs into the chair also. Then Doodle, Tumpty, and Pru decide they want sit on Tilly's lap also, so poor Hector ends up on the floor, the unhappiest he has ever been. His friends offer to play with him, but he prefers to feel sorry for himself, until he sees that Tilly has painted his picture. Then he is very very happy. This is a sweet story about sharing and love. Reviewer: Sarah Maury Swan

    I Also Recommend:

An underrated gem of a series

This series is THE PERFECT read for children in the 2-3 year-old age range. Although they may appear simplistic, they are actually masterpieces of subtlety and great design. Tilly's world perfectly captures the toddler zeitgeist where small moments comprise the entire universe, and where each interaction can become a moral milestone. This story does a great job of explaining how to overcome sadness at having to share a beloved friend with others. We use these books everyday with our three year-old to frame ideas like friendship, fairness, feelings, and kindness. We have given the whole set to our daughter's preschool, and my husband uses them all year in his junior kindergarten classroom. I can't recommend them highly enough.
