Overview

"Happiness is a glass of lemonade." Sit back and enjoy this nugget of wisdom and other parent-friendly kids' songs from master musician Ralph Covert. Under the banner of Ralph's World, this folk-pop musician offers a rousing brand of kids' music that intelligently entertains rather than preaching. On his third Ralph's World release, Covert continues to celebrate silliness (the "Belly Button" song will keep little feet dancing "all day long") and life's simple pleasures ("Things That I Like" sounds like a perennial list of every kid's fave things in life). And don't forget to "Say Hi to the Animals," a banjo-flavored homage to the zoo's many inhabitants -- "Say hi to the flamingo for me/If you love John, Paul, George, and Ringo/Say hi to the flamingo for me," Covert winningly sings. But a child's life is not without drama -- the woes of a lost play date fill the kiddie-set ballad "Dinosaur Rumble," and an unavoidably grumpy mood hangs over "Puddle of Mud." But Covert's mellow, acoustic take on Bruce Springsteen's "Pony Boy" is sure to soothe young listeners. Particularly noteworthy is Ralph's musical adaptation of the tongue twister "Betty Botter," which he sets to a smooth-jazz-infused melody, accompanied by kids singing scat. Ralph Covert has done it again with an engaging and fun disc that makes being a kid -- and having one -- reason to smile.
