Hard and Heavy

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Ronnie D. Lankford

The collection features Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth, and a number of others who, if they never quite managed to make heavy metal a household word, at least spread the hard rock gospel to American youth. And after all, who can resist the guitar crunch of Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me" or Warrant's "Cherry Pie"? Or Top Ten favorites like Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" and Quiet Riot's "Cum on Feel the Noize"? For the pure of heart, Judas Priest's "Living After ...

For the pure of heart, Judas Priest's "Living After Midnight," one of two tracks on the collection not to chart, will be the only cut to make the grade. Still, even purists will be surprised that they remembers cuts like Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" and Roth's "Yankee Rose." Both sides of the aisle will also find a couple of less familiar cuts -- "Midnight Maniac" by Krokus and "Summertime Girls" by Y & T -- that only did moderately well on the charts. Wherever one stands on the heavy metal musical divide, Hard and Heavy serves as a fine and fun time capsule of the '80s.
