Hard Rock Live

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Paul Rodgers made no secret that Bad Company's 2008 reunion gig at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was to "protect the legacy they have built and cement the rights to the trademark Bad Company for touring," a trademark they capitalized upon the following year with a brief American tour. But that 2008 gig in Hollywood, FL, is where the comeback started, and that return to glory is documented on the 2010 CD/DVD set Hard Rock Live. This clean, professional performance never strays from the expected as the band plays all the classics with efficiency instead of flair, yet it's still quite entertaining for die-hard fans.

    Bad Company STILL Bad!!

Singer Paul Rodgers is the highlight of this CD/DVD set, still singing more soulfully than any rock singer out there. But he's not the only bright spot. The song selection is very good and covers the band's best years. Guitarist Mick Ralphs sounds great and looks like he is truly having a great time. While Rodgers, Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke (all surviving original members) are listed as Bad Company proper, second guitarist Howard Leese (formerly of Heart) is a nice addition to a performing lineup which has usually featured four people. If you're a die-hard Bad Co. fan, pick this one up. If you're a casual fan who just likes good, solid, blues-based rock and roll, you should pick it up as well.
