Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team—sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.

When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the sibling she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he's become. Derek's easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting their desire and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn't trust.

As the team's investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let it slip away . . .

    Fabulous

    ## FABULOUS. Man, I adored this book. Derek wasn't just hot, but "holy sh*t" hot. His humor and loyalty made an awesome combination. And his dirty talk? NICE! The sex scenes in general were scorching (I definitely squirmed a bit). Unlike Shane and Easy's books, there seems to be a lot of progress pertaining to clearing the team's name in this book. This was a fantastic read with apprx. 280 pages that I will read again for sure. I am so happy that Jeremy's story is next. I have been anxiously awaiting whatever is in store for him.

Hard to Come By is the fourth in the Hard Ink series.  The technical guru and amputee Marz is front and center in this installment.  In efforts to find someone who knows more about what happened to the team and what’s going on today the Hard Ink guys find Emille Garza – sister of Manny and the only antagonist they’ve been able to identify thus far.  Emille proves more than a match for Marz and their courtship is fast and furious.  The big misunderstanding between them is resolved quickly and doesn’t become a plot issue.  Additionally she fits in well with the rest of the team and will prove a valuable resource going forward.  The ongoing action in the overarching storyline of what happened in Afghanistan makes progress while still being a fully realized story.  Most importantly, this novel continues to deal with the issues of PTSD and amputees of those that have served.  This is a powerful installment in the series and well-worth a read.  While it can be read as a stand-alone it is much richer in the context of the series.  The next book can’t come fast enough.

4.75 stars--HARD TO COME BY is the third full length storyline i

4.75 stars--HARD TO COME BY is the third full length storyline in Laura Kaye’s adult, contemporary Hard Ink romantic suspense series focusing on a group of ex-special forces soldiers trying to prove their innocence in an Afghanistan mission that went horribly wrong. One year earlier, the five surviving members of the twelve man team returned home to discover they had been dishonorably discharged and their records falsified. This is Special Forces team member, IT specialist and amputee Derek (Marz) DiMarzio and psychologist Emilie Garza’s storyline -one that pits Emilie’s brother against the Hard Ink team.
Told from third person point of view, the storyline follows Derek as he is tasked with ‘getting to know’ Emilie better. Emilie’s brother Manny, an ex-Special Forces soldier, is a suspect in a number of suspicious murders and the soldiers of Hard Ink begin tracking his connections to their former commander-the commander who is believed to have turned on his men and left them to die.
The relationship between Derek and Emilie begins as a lie but soon develops into something more. Derek and Emilie are immediately attracted to one another but Derek knows the risk of destroying Emilie when the truth about their relationship is revealed.
The colorful secondary characters include all of the previous storyline couples as well as the remaining Special Forces soldiers and the local bike gang whose new mission is to help track the people responsible for the devastation that awaits the Team.  The men of Hard Ink will acquire two new allies in their war at home but will lose someone close at the end of the day. Two more potential relationships have started to bloom.

The timeline from book one to book four is approximately two weeks to date. The mystery and investigation surrounding the Team’s set up and resulting fall out is slowly building as the team members begin to gather information and clues about the people and places involved.  It is not an easy mission for the Special Forces Team-the war at home is as dangerous as the war in the Middle East.
Laura Kaye’s HARD INK family consists of passionate men and women whose love for one another is protective and profound. Their stories of loss, sacrifice and survival are emotional, intense and startlingly real.
A great series. A wonderful storyline. An amazing author.

I enjoyed it even though it wasn't my favorite. He came across differently than how I had him portrayed in my head. Not unlikable at all, just not as good as what I had hoped. A little to rushed in places and not rushed enough in others. Over all decent though. :) hope the last two are better.

    Hard to Come By

This series is really good with each mans story folding back another layer
It did seem as you said harder for you to get to the meat of the story but I am happy to say you managed to bring it all together in the end and we are finally are sort of on the down hill side of finding the actual bad guys!
Looking forward to Becketts story and hope Kat will work her way in

    This is a fantastic book!
It's got so great developments in the plot, a romance truly, well, romantic and hot, a group of ex-military determined to clean their names and great friends we all wished to have; what more can we ask from a book?

I loved Derek and Emilie! They are the best couple in this series. The way they met and how they came to know each other, although it started as a way to find the whereabouts of Emilie's brother, was so sweet it touched me deeply. It had me hooked on the ereader screenwishing for more.

I loved reading this book! This group of friends and their women is wonderful to read about. I can't believe we're a book (and a half, considering the next novella) from the end.

Whenever I think Laura Kaye can't possibly write a better book than her last, she goes and does it. Hard to Come By follows that mold. This thing was packed with intensity and emotion, not to mention those hot SpecOps guys we love. And the twists and turns? Holy wow!! So much to process, I need to read it again to make sure I got it all. And I'm already clamoring for the next book because I'm dying to see what happens next. You will absolutely not go wrong with the Hard Ink series!

    4.5 stars!!

I have been a fan of the Hard Ink series from the very first book, Hard as It Gets, and even though I love the other boys, Marz just stole my heart!  Hard to Come By is (as of now) my favorite book in this series, but if you haven't read this series yet, I would suggest you try and read these in order first.  Laura Kaye does an excellent job catching readers up with overloading them with details so you could read this as a stand alone book, but my opinion would be to at least read Hard as It Gets to really get the sense of the series before diving into Marz and Emilie's story.

Laura Kaye is creating such an engaging and fascinating journey with this series.  The characters all have gone through so much and are back together to clear their names, but things aren't as straight forward or as simple as that.  The Hard Ink boys are uncovering things that are embroiling them in a deeper mess and while they are uncovering more mysteries they each are finding their own piece of happiness in each book.  Derek Marz has attracted my attention from book one and I am so glad his story delivered not only a great addition to the series but an emotional and heart-melting story.

Hard to Come By was so much better than I was expecting, usually by the fourth book (I'm counting Easy's novella a book) in a series the storyline is getting stale or frustrating, but with this series that is definitely not the case.  Laura Kaye is crafting a story that is spanning all the books that is just as intriguing and addicting as it was in book one.  I am dying to figure out how this will all play out after the way this book closes (no spoilers, but it was an interesting twist).  This series is well written and even though each book focuses on a separate man, the overall arc of the storyline continues seamlessly throughout each book, so reading these all together gives you the sense of reading one long book instead of separate stories.

Hard to Come By gives us more in-depth understanding of Marz.  Derek Marz is the computer guy in the group an has always been the happy-go-lucky guy in the group.  I loved getting to know his character and watching him interact with his "brothers" and Emilie.  He is definitely the strong, vulnerable character that I swoon over.  All he has ever wanted was to belong to someone and be a part of a family and reading his and Emilie's journey gave me goosebumps several times.  Laura Kaye writes great men, but she really wrote a great character in Emilie.  Emilie was in a situation she didn't truly understand and proved time and time again that she was stronger than she thought and was the perfect match for Marz. Laura Kaye's storytelling keeps getting richer and her characters are puzzles I can't wait to solve.  (Waiting for Beckett's story is going to be hard)

If you have been reading the Hard Ink series then you are going to love the continuation of this story and getting to know Marz.  If you have yet to read this wonderful series do yourself a favor and pick up Hard as It Gets and meet these men of Hard Ink.  This is definitely a great book to indulge in this Thanksgiving week, just don't read and cook (you might burn something)!

This is the next book in the series. The guys are still in battle with Church’s men and also trying to find out
how to get their name back within the military.
Marz  aka Derek  Dimarzio the man who had lost his leg in Afghanistan and computer guru has been given
the task of getting close to one of their suspects sister Emilie.  Well he does more than get close and the
     fireworks begin.
Manny was either working for the enemy or a contractor who was still enemy to the Hard Ink Men.
Marz  did  not believe Emilie had anything to do with it as she was a good, honest woman.
All hell breaks lose back at Hard Ink and the guys lose yet another one of their allies in this battle.
This book gives us tons of action , suspense and super hot romance. Marz is one hell of a man.

    Great Read!!!

This series just gets better and better with each subsequent book. This is the fourth book in the series and it focuses on Derek "Marz" DiMarzio, who is the technical guru, and his attempts to help his former Special Forces buddies in restoring their honor. While attempting to track down Manny Garza, Derek meets Emilie Garza, Manny's younger sister, who the team believes may have vital information on Manny's whereabouts. However, Marz's plans are all thrown into a tailspin when he realizes that he has fallen for the beautiful Emilie Garza.

I just have to say that every time I think that I have figured out the mystery...nope, I am stumped. I literally have no idea what is going on or who is the real bad guy!! I absolutely love it!! This series has me guessing just like Aleatha Romig's Consequences series did!! I guess, just like that one, I shall have to wait until the final book to get my answers!!

Can I just say that these Hard Ink guys get sexier and sexier by the minute??!! I absolutely loved Marz!! However, I can say that I have no idea which Hard Ink guy I love more, because they are all fantastic. And the women in this series are absolutely fabulous!! I cannot wait for Jeremy's or Beckett's books. Great job on this one and the entire series!!

Hard to Come By is the third book in the Hard Ink series by Laur

Hard to Come By is the third book in the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye. This book is about Derek – who is just an all around great guy. He is a hero, saving a teammate and losing his leg in the process. He also has never had a family or anyone to love him. Instead of being moody and sulking about his life, he has the best sense of humor about everything.

Derek falls for a beautiful woman named Emilie when he tries to get information out of her about her brother. Emilie's brother is a very dangerous man. Derek is unsure of Emilie's participation in her brother's criminal activity.

Emilie is a great character. She is both strong and compassionate. Emilie knows that her brother came home from the military a changed man – but she doesn't realize just what all he is involved in. She is very much a family-oriented person, so going behind her brother's back to get help is hard for her.

You definitely need to start with book #1 in this series – you just can't read these out of order. The main storyline slowly unfolds throughout all these books, and it's getting really exciting. This book has a good balance of action, suspense, and romance. Things get very hot and steamy between Derek and Emilie. The side of Derek that you see in the bedroom is a lot different than the side of him that everyone else gets to see.

The author has done a great job of writing these characters and the storyline. I can't wait to see how it all ends. I'm really looking forward to Beckett's story!
