This was definitely an intriguing, fast paced yet approachable novel. Hotl’s story was well developed and easy to follow without being heavy. I appreciated that it was a light and easy read that packed a large punch. And OMG on the Nez Perce & Apps. No one knows this outside the breed/history buffs. It shocked me and warmed my heart to see this well researched tidbit thrown into this racy novel.
I quite enjoyed how Holt’s focus was on the main characters. The supporting cast was kept small, only being developed in the way that they interact with those characters. The main couple is developed quite well in the present, with just a hint at their past. As a reader, you get to know them as they know each other. My biggest issue with the characters was the fact that the female lead never bothered to tell the male lead a large piece of information that affects him directly. Although understandably something difficult to talk about, being as open as their relationship was becoming that info was essential.
Overall, this was a brilliant standalone novel that also fits into its series. It was a brilliant introduction to this author, spurring me to read more of her work.
