Overview

This debut novel from David Rivera, Jr., explores the life of a detective and his world torn apart by love and lust. In a story that combines the underworld of crime and the positive force of justice, readers discover what really makes a man tick.

Detective Chemah Rivers is a man with principles. His position as one of the top and highly respected detectives in the city helps define his character as a man to be reckoned with. He's got the winning combination of looks, physique, intelligence, and charisma. Women are drawn to him. But only two were ever able to get into his heart.

Nairobi is not typically the type of woman that would attract Chemah, but her alluring combination of intelligence, assertiveness, and humor piques his interest. A chance encounter leads to an unforgettable night of pleasure when passion ignited cannot be denied.

Scene-stealing Margarita is smart, upwardly mobile, resourceful, aggressive, and sexy. She knows what she wants and she goes after it: whether it's a job — or a man — she'll do whatever it takes. However, sometimes having it all can prove to be a bit too much.

Chemah has handled some of the most important cases in New York City, but his next case proves to be the most challenging. Add to the mix the love and attention of two very different, very intense women and you have the makings for a spicy tale.

First time reading anything by this writer and it definitely wil

First time reading anything by this writer and it definitely will not be the last. NO SPOILERS. This was the writer's debut novel and what a coming out party it is. I was impressed with the story line originality. Sure I was thinking boy meets girl while boy has another girl, but it wasn't typical and it wasn't what I expected. I loved the flow and timeline of the book, no unnecessary fillers. It was sensual and at times erotic. I didn't know where he was going and the ending was quite unexpected. I was hooked from page one and found a new crush in the protagonist.

    Absolutely riveting

This book invades your mind as you read it. You can visualize the story as it unfolds see the characters. At first, I have to admit that I was like 'What the...' when he got with his son's mother. But then I liked the way that she carried herself. Black, white - made no difference, she had a realness that his wife obviously did not have. Now the wife was off the hook, but I can see why -in a way- that she was like that...in a way. But to have a strong man like Chemah on your arm and to still do the things that she did - Whoa.... All in all - read the book and then get the Streetsweeper...the man is a powerful writer - he provides twist turn, eroticism and a flare of reality to this novel and it makes you want the Harlem Dragon in your life.

    Intriguing

This story tugged on the heart-strings and was very interesting. You could easily identify with the emotions expressed by the protaganist. Chemah had a lot of 'heart' and 'character'. This first book by David Rivera is a good read. Looking forward to reading his next.

    Sex, Suspense, Surprise

The neophyte David Rivera, Jr. has secured his longevity on the African-American literary scene with his debut book, Harlem's Dragon. Probably meant for a man, but made for a woman -- Harlem's Dragon contains all the elements of a great drama a strong story line, well-developed, believable characters and, of course, a (deliciously) healthy dose of eroticism -- well written and beautifully packaged. David gives his lead character, Chemah Rivers, emotional depth -- a long lost quality in modern-day men. But Chemah is far from perfect, in fact, it is his imperfections that make him a true Harlem superhero. He is smart, sexy and relatively uncomplicated -- which works against him at times. A quick read and real page turner, Harlem's Dragon is a 'must read' for the grown and sexy. I understand there's a sequel to follow in the fall, The Street Sweeper. Keep writing David, we'll definitely keep reading!

    Impressed!

This is one impressive realistic fiction book w/ an erotic twist to it. I recently picked it up one evening after work and read it till i was done the next day, only stopping to sleep. The characters were well put together w/ the story pulling you in. I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel.
