Overview

There are few things more satisfying to listen to than two players who share a unique chemistry. Longtime friends, keyboardist Dave Grusin and guitarist Lee Ritenour seem to have an innate understanding of how to make the other sound great, and HARLEQUIN exemplifies that rare accord. Grusin and Ritenour won a Grammy Award in 1985 for the tune "Early A.M. Attitude," a lovely, sprightly composition that remains a smooth-jazz classic. Brazilian music has always been part of Ritenour's repertoire, and HARLEQUIN features the American debut of respected Brazilian singer/songwriter Ivan Lins, who turns in several stellar performances, particularly on the beautiful title track. Other standout tunes on the album include the breezy "San Ysidro" and the rocking "Cats of Rio." HARLEQUIN demonstrates a profound musical connection -- it's not to be missed.

I haven't really bought the cd, partially because I can't find it, but I still have the original casette released back in 1980 something. This album has got to be Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour's masterpiece, and I enjoyed all of the original eight tracks. I see that they have added a ninth song. I can't wait to hear this ninth song. If you haven't got this album yet, get it! It's really, really good, and I am just in awe of what these two artists are capable of.
