Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, America's lone surviving motorcycle manufacturer. This volume, an updated version of a 1997 work, represents but a fraction of the products, promotions, and events that will commemorate the anniversary. Although journalist Rafferty provides an adequate overview of the company's history, development, and significant events by era, this book is essentially a showy pictorial treatment of Harley models and Harley history throughout the century, with more than 300 vivid color photographs. Many of the two-page close-ups of vintage Harleys are so finely detailed that oil flecks and pits in metal are visible. Numerous accompanying sidebars note distinctive features of each model. Better histories of Harley-Davidson are available (see, e.g., David Wright's The Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company), but this pictorial tribute is an easy purchase at this price.
