Harpo in Hi Fi/Harpo at Work

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Despite his lack of formal training on the harp, Harpo Marx was surprisingly accomplished, as revealed by Collector's Choice's Harpo in Hi Fi/Harpo at Work reissue featuring two of Harpo's albums on one compact disc. Harpo's versions of standards like "My Funny Valentine," "Autumn Leaves," "Sweet Sue," and "Laura" aren't as silly as the Marx name might suggest, although his occasional whistling adds a slightly whimsical touch to the proceedings. As pretty, romantic background music, Harpo in Hi Fi/Harpo at Work is worthwhile beyond its sheer novelty factor.

Harpo is not only hillarious, but a great musician

In this album, you can hear Harpo playing both beautiful and technically difficult harp solo's backed by a small jazz band and in some songs, strings. With songs ranging from the classical, "The Ash Grove," to pieces by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and a couple by Harpo himself, you can't go wrong. This is a great cd that makes you feel good every time you listen to it with eyes shut. I was always a fan of Harpo and his playing as well, but I was a little hesistant about getting this cd. Now I'm glad I did!

Harpo Marx makes harp playing classically cool

Harpo Marx's harp playing is peaceful and deep. Harpo has a great story to tell through his music, this is a must for any appreciator of harp music!
