Keeping notes of everyone in her diary, Harriet's notions of her friends become known and they dislike her. She then tries to do good so they'll like her once more. Shows children that great ambitions at the cost of others isn't the way to go.

Yeah HArriet was a nasty person and it shows that when ever you lie it comes back to bite you in the butt.but harriet did not really lie it was more of an unknow hobby that was a bad one. Yet her friends did know about what she was doing they just did not know all the deets ya know.THey did not know she was writing mean things abot them.but they made haarriet feel bad whe they were excluding her from their little club.tell me what you think and feel free to bounce off my ideas!!!!!!!

This was rhe first book I actually remember finishing as a child. I loved living through Harriet's adventures. She was a lot like me (or like I wanted to be as a child.)

Harriet the Spy
Harriet M Welsch, a young girl who wants to be a spy when she grows up, observes people on her street and classmates, then writes down what she sees and her thoughts into her journal. The thoughts she expresses about her peers and people on her street are anything but flattering. One day, Harriet's journal comes up missing, but is found and read aloud by her classmates who become angered and want some type of revenge.
I liked this book as a child, but didn't quite get the message like I did reading it the second time around as an adult. I believe older elementary school students would be the best candidates to read this book because if they haven't yet, they will experience something similar to the plot of this book sooner or later.

I got this book from the public library and was stuck to it. I like Harriet's movies but I personally think that the book makes a better picture in your mind and is also more detailed. I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries and spying. It is really interesting and funny.

Most times the book is better than the movie. I think this time I liked the movie a little better than the book. But this is still a very good book.

I am 19 years old and am buying myself another copy of this book... It was always one of my favorites as a kid, because every kid can identify with feeling left out and different from everyone else at some point or another. It's a great work.
