Overview

“Will Harry survive?” This is the story of a broken warrior – a warrior victorious in battle but broken and defeated in peace! It tells how a man wins a great victory in combat, and then loses his will to live. For Harry, being a fighter pilot and flying the F-15C fighter plane on Combat Air Patrol over the Iraq-Iran border was the epitome of success. After his wing man is shot down, he finds he must test his abilities and training when faced with overwhelming odds yet decides to engage his enemies in air-to-air combat. While many have described this part of the story as the best description of air-to-air combat they have read as Harry figures out how to deal with incoming state-of-the-art Su-27 Iranian fighters; that is not the point of this story. While scenes from this book place the reader in the cockpit of a United States fighter jet in air combat; this is essentially the story of the dissolution of a man who has faced death in the most extreme circumstances, emerged victorious and survived. In the aftermath, Harry discovers he must dig deep to learn how to fight and survive in the battlegrounds of life. . . Will he? In this story, Harry faces the most difficult demons of his life. It is a multiple front personal war with demons from a deep past haunting him and some nice newly minted demons resulting from the glory of survival. This is not a perfectly crafted novella, doesn’t claim to be. If you are looking for Ernest Hemingway or other great polished fiction writers, you would be well served well to look elsewhere. But it does provide a short description of a warrior’s fall and poses questions and delivers a great moral story. The questions are “Will Harry survive?” and/or, more importantly, “Will Harry prevail?” The author is struggling with his own demons of doubt and trying to decide if he can continue to channel Harry to see if Harry will find “Redemption” in further episodes. The author hopes, if you decide to purchase and read, you will appreciate the broken warrior. Not just Harry, but the thousands and thousands of veterans who have served our country faithfully and are dealing with their own issues. Though their travail, they all remain proud of the service they provided their country. They are the true warriors. We continue to pray they will not merely survive but will prevail. We owe them that much and more!

Great Read! Wow!  ..  I've never read books in this type genre before, but if this book is any indication, I'll be reading more, and especially from this writer. Just great!  His characters and descriptions of close air combat were absolutely Thrilling and had me on the edge of my seat with excitement and anticipation. The story tells of the struggles of Harry a Fighter Pilot in the Iraq War. Struggle both fo war and internally. Thsi book was well researched from a obviously gifted writer. I found the book to be both informative and entertaining. It Was a Joy to read, and I'll be looking for more from Mr. Benjamin. Bravo!

The military and jet fighter expertise in this book is amazing. The author really knows his stuff about how it is to fly a jet. This is what I loved about the book. It is truly authentic, as if you were a pilot yourself. They story could use a little work (as in, add more), but the dog fight and Harry's internal struggle are thoroughly explored. The dog fight was my favorites part and really exciting! I'd recommend this book for military buffs.

I absolutely love this novel, from beginning to end I was captivated throughout the whole read. Ed Benjamin is a man who has experience in the Aviation field and has demonstrated his talent and skills in writing this book. My favourite parts in this book are the battles for sure, very thrilling and at times sent chills down my spine as I felt myself gripping my reading device quite tight. I myself cannot stand flying or the thought of crashing but wow this book makes me want to be an air force pilot! The lead characters have very dominant minds and very interesting views on the politics of war which will get you thinking. Outstanding read, I am now reading through this a second time.

Fantastic, books like these are what keep the readers flipping pages! These are by far my favourite novels to read, full of action and lots of interesting information. The mind set of the main characters are strong and what they endure in this book is phenomenal. Once you pick this book up there will be no putting it down!

Author Ed Benjamin brings us the exciting character Harry. Harry is in the U.S. Air Force. He is about to endure a harrowing mission during which Harry becomes one of only two pilots to score three kills in a single battle. Benjamin’s command of military life, equipment and protocol is remarkable. He is able to create a believable and impressive picture of a military air battle right down to all the incredible details. Through his extensive descriptions Benjamin is able to bring ‘Harry’s War’ to brilliant and colorful life. My Grandfather was a bombardier in WWII. My Dad was in the service as well as my husband. This gives me more knowledge on military life than the average person. I was impressed with how accurate this book is even down to small details. I became immersed in Benjamin’s creation and transfixed on the outcome. I enjoyed getting to learn more about Harry’s history, what calls him into the service to begin with, and what happens to him after his military career. It is a nice change of pace to see the man behind the hero. I was also pleased to see that there may be a detective series in the works starring Harry. I have grown quite fond of him. Harry’s War is an exhilarating experience you won’t want to miss. I highly recommend it!

Pros If you’re interested in an intense fighter to fighter combat scenario, this is the best I’ve ever read. You feel yourself in the cockpit of Harry’s F-15 against overwhelming odds. The technical aspects and air co-ordination with AWACS was very insightful.  Cons The second half of the book talks about his life before and after his career ending injury.  Much of the information in this part could easily be integrated to the beginning.  At times I felt this part was an afterthought. It carried none of the initial flowing prose. It was jarring and rough. Perhaps that’s what the other intended. Editing:  It needs it.  A fleshing out would tighten up the story. We know it’s Harry so why do so many sentences start with his name. Many of the sentences are in past tense when the action is present. Let’s re-evaluate the word ‘had’ and ‘that.’ A point of confusion for me was Major Howard. I don’t want to give anything away, but I found it odd that he moved Harry’s paper up the chain of command after giving him a failing grade. Overall, not a bad effort, but it needs work Three stars.

I like the guy. I can relate. Not because I ever was a pilot or could master all that amazing technology, or even because I got the girl (I usually didn't), but because even though he has succeeded so well he still doesn't believe he has mastered the game of life at some places in his heart. that part I understand only too well. I am so very much looking forward to the full novel with Harry. Based on this book, I can expect some real but yet unexpected twists to keep me interested. Also, (without giving the story away) I am from the state Harry winds up in and it is true what you hear about it. Even my wife's hairdresser carries a gun. I do want to see how this is handled - it should be fun.
