    Great for teen girls!

This story, written by Melody Carlson, takes place in Boston, Massachusetts. The main character is Reagan Mercer. She is trying to fit in at her new high school. She tries out for the Varsity cheerleading team and accidentally takes the popular girl, Kendra Farnsworth. Now she is her new enemy. She has to deal with Kendra trying to making her life miserable. Readers will find out that after a party gone too far and a car accident that this might get Kendra to realize what she is doing to her friends. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and made me want to keep reading more and more. A great book for teen girls to relate to in so many ways.

Is fitting in with the cheerleader worth the harsh treatment?

This book is about a normal teenage girl, Reagen, who just moved into town. But when she takes the most popular girl in the school¿s cheerleading spot there is some conflict. Reagen makes a friend on the team just to be with someone, but is starting to really like her. But is ditching a true friend just to be with a popular friend worth the trouble? This book will have you dying to read on with the partying fun, the shopping, and the backstabbing. I liked this book but the beginning started off slow. But after a few chapters the book got really good. It was nice to be able to somewhat relate to the book because when you relate to something it is easier to understand too. So you will probably be able to understand this wonderful book. It was nice because the narrator didn¿t keep switching around. It stayed the same narrator the whole time, Reagen. This book is part of the Color Series and it don¿t matter what order you read the book in. This book reminds me of the movie, Mean Girls because in that story it was all about trying to be with the popular girls and what mean things they would do just to be on the top. If you liked that movie you will probably like this book. I also think that this book would be good for teenage girls to read. That is why I think that this book is a good book to read.

    ¿Popularity, Will You Get Burned?¿

Most people would love to be in the popular eye, but would you be willing to betray a friend for it? That¿s the question Reagan (the main character) faces. Would you take a chance and ruin a friend¿s reputation? What do you think she will choose, the right thing to do or popularity? Reagan has just moved to a new town from Boston. She tried out for cheerleading and made on the varsity squad. But not all good things are good about making it on the varsity squad considering she knocked the most popular senior out of the varsity squad. Talk about envy! So that makes it even harder for Reagan to make friends when the most popular girl in school hates her. That¿s what Reagan thought until she met Josselyn who also made it on to the varsity squad. Eventually Kendra (the most popular senior) hates Josselyn more than Reagan. Well the more people that hate Josselyn the better, so Kendra tries to get Reagan to hate Josselyn. Reagan wants to be accepted but will she be willing to hurt Josselyn in the process. Would you be willing? That¿s a question you will have to ask yourself. To go along with all of this stress at home she has the responsibility of taking care of her Nana who is sadly showing signs of Alzheimer¿s. How would you handle this situation? How do you think Reagan will handle this situation? Melody Carlson is one of my favorite authors. I especially love the True Colors Series. This book is part of the series. The rest of the books in this series is a Dark Blue: Color Me Lonely Deep Green: Color Me Jealous: Torch Red: Color Me Torn Pitch Black: Color Me Lost Burnt Orange: Color Me Wasted Fool¿s Gold: Color Me Consumed Blade Silver: Color Me Scared Bitter Rose: Color Me Crushed Faded Denim: Color Me Trapped Bright Purple: Color Me Confused AND moon White: Color Me Enchanted. I recommend these books to ages 7th grade and up. This series you do not have to read in order. This book I loved and couldn¿t put it down. There weren¿t many things that I didn¿t like about this book. I think maybe it could have explained Josselyn¿s life with a little more detail than it gave. Other than that I think anyone who reads this book will love it just as much as I did. Enjoy!

    more from this reviewer

    insightful TrueColors teen entry

Upon moving from Boston to Colorado Springs so she and her workaholic mom can take care of her Alzheimer¿s inflicted grandma, Reagan Mercer hopes to fit in at Belmont High School, which she will attend. To do so she believes her best chance is to hopefully make the varsity cheerleading squad, which she does. However, her success means popular Kendra Farnsworth failed to make the team. Kendra warns Reagan that she will regret taking her spot. --- Reagan makes friends with cheerleading peer Jocelyn Matthews while also trying to make the social scene. Surprisingly Kendra and her minion accept her as one of them so Reagan ignores her first Colorado friend geek Andrea Lynch. However, the newcomer will soon learn the cost of becoming part of the in-crowd as an alcoholic binge causes a near tragedy. --- The TrueColors teen series final tale is an insightful entry that focuses on the cost of giving up one¿s values to join the inner popularity circle. Reagan is a terrific protagonist while the other key high school students are fully developed whether they are the in keepers of malice, a cheerleader, or a geek. Still this is Reagan¿s lesson learned that everyone wants to be belong, but people must consider whether the price is worth paying. --- Harriet Klausner
